This introductory course will teach tai chi fundamentals with exercises to loosen the joints, elongate the breath and develop a student's sense of center. An excellent mind-body exercise, Tai Chi develops one's awareness of the body's energy by emphasizing a harmony between balance and breathing rather than force and muscular strength. Through a series of gentle, flowing movements, it can improve both fitness (tone, flexibility) and health (circulation, stress reduction) and is a workout appropriate for all ages. It can be especially helpful to adults and seniors who may be recuperating from injury, surgery or debilitating conditions such as arthritis. Meeting once a week in one-hour sessions for six weeks. These concepts will be put into practice by studying a 24-posture Yang style short tai chi form.
