The Prospect Park Alliance Celebrates the Park’s New Tennis Center

Inaugural Gala on May 20

Special Open House and Events on Sunday, May 21

Gala: Saturday, May 20, 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Open House: Sunday, May 21, noon - 4 p.m.

Have your racquets at the ready --- tennis at Brooklyn’s landmark Prospect Park is better than ever!
As part of a $4.4 million construction program, the Prospect Park Alliance has refurbished nine clay courts, added two deco-turf hard courts, installed night lighting, and purchased new bubbles to protect players from the elements. Capping it all off, the Alliance is opening a newly constructed building with a pro shop, café, showers, lockers, and fitness room.

See this gorgeous new facility first-hand on May 20 and enjoy an evening of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, silent auction, dinner, and music in an elegant tent on the lawn. Guests may also participate in a Round Robin Tournament preceding the gala from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. John McEnroe is the evening’s Honorary Chair. Tickets for the Gala start at $200. Entrance to the Round Robin Tournament is an additional $100 per person. Call (718) 965-8988 for ticket information.

The Tennis Center will also be open for an informal public Open House on Sunday, May 21, from
noon – 4 p.m. Enjoy kids clinics, adult round-robin tennis , music, food, and surprises while you explore the new building and meet the staff. Entrance is $5. For more information, call (718) 436-2500 or email [email protected].

The Prospect Park Tennis Center features 11 courts 9 of which are Har-Tru surface courts and two are Deco-Turf hard courts. The Deco-Turf hard courts are especially suitable for Junior play and USTA League and Tournament training. All the courts are open-air in warm weather months and protected under a bubble during the winter. Best of all, the action continues on five of the courts even when the sun goes down, thanks to state-of-the-art night lighting.

Special emphasis is placed on year-round recreational programming for youth, with a Junior Development Program that features group lessons after school and all day Saturday. Kids and young adults enjoy personalized attention from expert tennis Pros from around the globe. Scholarships to the Program are awarded based on merit and need. Adult group classes are also offered throughout the week and the Center’s Pros are also available for private and semi-private lessons.

The Prospect Park Tennis Center is open daily, 7 a.m. until midnight. Call (718) 436-2500 for more information or visit www.prospectpark.org.

The Center is located at the Parade Ground on the corner of Coney Island and Parkside Avenues (Park Circle). Street parking is available on Parkside Avenue.

The Prospect Park Tennis Center at the Parade Ground is a program of the Prospect Park Alliance.
