The one on 9th Street, that is. Any opinions? Mostly about the gym and swim aspects.

I rejoined in January of this year. Part of my New Year's Resolution to
get in shape. I love the Y. It's where my son learned to swim when he
was a baby. Every day I either run on on the tread mill or elliptical
thing or swim. During the week I can only go very early in the morning
or after work so sometimes there is bit of wait for lap swim which starts
at 6PM. There are three lanes and 4 people can swim in each lane at
a time. On Sunday morning I take a 9AM stretching and toning class
which I really enjoy. There are plenty of classes to choose from. The
Y is open from early morning until around 11PM. It's great having both the sauna and steam room to choose from after working out. The price
to join is reasonable. The Y is just a very down to earth kind of place
that I'm grateful to have within walking distance from my house.
  • Dunno about swim, but like it for the gym aspects. For me, it's a good deal for the $$$. Rarely have a hard time getting the machine I want. And I really like the democraticness of it -- young people, old people, fit people, unattractive people, old guys working the punching bags -- nobody seems concerned about how they look or whom they impress. I use it much more in the winter so haven't been often lately.
  • It's great! About half the cost of the NYSC across the street, and the equipment is nice, too. Most of the cardio machines have TVs with individual remotes / headphone jacks. The weight machines are in good shape, and they're supposed to be building a new pool, too. The staff is always friendly, as are the people. Highly recommended!
