Posted: Sun May 21, 2006 6:34 pm Post subject: Help! My toilet is overflowing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(@*(&;!~
Damn toilet is overflowing (with [/b]clean water, thankfully).
I have an old(er) toilet with the ball and chain thing (which I seem to remember having a pretty sexual name - one that escapes me now).
Does anybody know what I can do to fix it fast?
I turned the valve off in the back because the bowl is filled to the top (and flooded my bathroom floor before I managed to shut it off).
Now I need to get the water out of the bowl. Am afraid to turn the valve on or jiggle the chain, etc. thinking that more water will just come out.
What to do (besides call a plumber or my moron of a landlord, if I can help it).
Somebody help, please!

if its just clogged. get a wire coat hanger and unwind it and stick the wire into the toilet and poke away or goto the hardware store and get a drain snake.

Thanks, armchair!
I think I fixed it - got out the plunger (which actually didn't really get a good suction going) and did that a few times. Managed to flush a bunch of times w/o incident.
Did I mention how happy I was that the water was clean?! -
call your landlord and tell him the toilet is overflowing and the ceiling below is going to collapse . . . in other words, express the urgency of the situation.
and get your downstairs neighbor to call him too
'cause their ceiling could collapse -

hope your next landlord next year would be better if you leave, besides that. you deserve a self reward
go get a piece of cake for a job well done

Pitu - am the only tenant, and last time he had something to do (took him 18 months to get to it), he flipped out screaming "I'm not your fucking maintenance man"...I told him that he shouldn't be a landlord to a 100 year old brownstone because sometimes shit just happens and he'll have to deal with it.
Armchair - I'm definitely going to reward myself - but not with cake
And I'm going to make sure that next year I have a good plan to change this situation. -
no cake
. how bout a e cookie
*hands Flexichick a e cookie

Sweets aren't really my thing. Now, if you want to hand over a nice glass of cabernet or a Negra Modelo

I've got a nice prosecco ... but my apartment is a disaster area right now.

you should see my closet full of sweets lol. not really into alky stuff
. only time i drink is with food. and only sweet stuff. dislike beer with a passion. -
More beer for me and more sweets for you, then.
I'm proud to say my apartment is shaping up very nicely. One of the very few downsides of a large apartment (floor thru) is the amount of crap you can accumulate.
FIVE, count 'em FIVE, bags of stuff to the curb tonight. Go, Flexi, go! -
