---------------
We're taking the crass out of procrastinating for your holiday gift buying with Brooklyn Craft Central's perfectly timed Holiday Market, Dec 18th & 19th, 2010. The final shopping weekend before the Big Day springs to life at two venues this year: Textile Arts Center and Littlefield Performance Space.

Breaking out for its third smashing year in the Park Slope/Gowanus area, Deb Klein's Brooklyn Craft Central brings together every free-range partridge and fair-trade pear tree you'd ever want to deck the halls with. Supporting local artisans who help bolster the groundswelling success of Brooklyn communities, this year's market spreads out to over 70 finely selected vendors of handmade crafts and food. There's something for every taste and fancy, every budget and bankroll; it's not just your average scarf and t-shirt sale, believe it...

Curated carefully by native New Yorker and Brooklyn indie champion Deb Klein, once part of the now off-and-running Bazaar Bizarre and former owner of the well-loved record shop HI-FI (both in Boston), the craft market brings together Klein's design aesthetic with entrepreneurial smarts to appeal to a wide audience of shoppers. Some vendors debuting new work include Kate Hill Cantrill, who creates living botanical wall art, plushPlay: stunning needle felted figures, and Queens Metal: 'bold jewelry for fearless women.' More info on our talented roster of vendors at http://bkcraftcentral.com/vendors.html

We've left the Brooklyn Lyceum to hold this year's market in two exciting Brooklyn venues that are emerging as integral parts of the Gowanus art scene. Littlefield Performance Space balances industrial chic and eco-friendly architecture with its full bar made from old bowling lanes (who said shopping can't be done at the same time as happy hour?) and wind-powered energy. Come kick out the tunes with DJs Whistlepunk and Area-D while you shop, and sip your Manhattans, Brooklyn-style.

A snowball's roll down the block is The Textile Arts Center, carved out of what was once a sweater factory. A new art space that looms large in the growing community of weavers and textile crafters, it's perfectly matched to showcase artisans of handmade goods. Sixpoint Craft Ale will join us to keep your fire warm with their local brew, and the Textile Arts Center will hold workshops in-between your gift-hunting, like how to silkscreen your own t-shirt designs.

At last the sometimes perfunctory act of holiday shopping can transform into real gift-giving, with singular hand-made things for your loved ones that support the community you thrive in instead of mass-produced plastic from headless corporations with giant carbon footprints. Join thousands of others this year by taking the handmade pledge. Add your name to the global list at BuyHandmade.org.

Come eat drink and be merry at Brooklyn Craft Central's one and only Holiday Market. We can't wait to see you. Well, maybe we can... ;)
