So, how'd the VOTING go?

  • The person who helped scan my ballot was a little unclear on what the privacy folder was for -- she tried to take it away before I put my ballot in the machine. When I protested, she said she didn't care how I voted. Which is nice and all, but beside the point: the folder keeps the ballot *private*. Yes, even from you.

The ballot itself was oddly laid out, and the type was way too small, especially the "vote for one" and "vote for four" bits.

The lines I had to wait in were short, and all of the scanners seemed to be working. So there's that.
  • Subject: Great experience at the PS 315/152 site

I had absolutely no problem with the new system at PS 315/152. The staff seemed well-trained and eager to help.
  • I had a great voting experience. The staff was helpful and efficient.

I admit I miss the levers, even though I know the scanners are more efficient.

Why not just click on a screen? If I can do all of my banking online, do all of my work projects through email, and allow the city to put all state/city test scores/attendance/contact info for all 1.1 million school kids online .... why isn't voting a but more advanced yet.....seems wasteful.
In the state I lived before, Virginia, we had completely electronic terminals. It was like voting at an ATM, but I didn't like it much. If the election is questioned or machine tampering is ever discovered there is no paper ballots available to do a hand recount. I much prefer the new system here where there is at least the possibility of going back and counting the physical ballots if necessary. However, for privacy reasons I would prefer that our new system allow us to mark and feed the ballot in one spot as opposed to this walking around with our marked ballot in a "privacy folder" business.
  • I voted on st johns place...they always make me feel rushed there :(
    boo
  • I voted in CG on Hoyt st and there weren't really any problems. The only thing that took a while was they have to fill out an index card and give it to you so that you can give it to the person at the scanners. Since I was there at 7:30am there was only two people ahead of me. Also, they did have those magnifying sheets at all the stations where you fill out your ballot.

  • Apparently they didn't bother to count 195,000 votes ...although no contests were affected.

Imagine how bad this would be if we actually had contested races....
