    hurrah!
  • there goes the hood. i want my crack store!!!
  • Awesome! Hopefully the baked goods will be as nice as the design.
  • but will they smell like fish?

there's also a cute, round sign that sticks out, but it kept swinging in the wind, defying the treo camera.:cry::cry::cry:

in any case, I anticipate something yummy or a short life.

in other news, it seems half may reopen.

    PB and MW.
  • oh boy! I hope they also have an area to eat in and do desserts by the slice. My BF (who has such a sweet tooth he often eats peanut butter cups for breakfast) is always bemoaning the lack of a place to get a nice slice of pie or piece of cake after, say, dinner at Geido (if its chocolate we want, we make a beeline for the chocolate room, but sometimes we want something other than chocolate!)
  • Have they opened yet? Anyone know what their hours are? Oh the possibilities... baked goods for breakfast on the way to work... baked goods as after-work snack... baked goods stumbling home from Soda... so bad, but so GOOD...
  • there's still paper and building permits up in the windows. no clue as to timeline.
  • OMG. A cupcake source. Now all we need is a bookstore and my bougie lifestyle needs will be totally met.
  • Website says early summer,

  • So it looks like their hours will be 7-7 on weekdays.

I'm not sure about the yellow-frosting-only policy, though... :P

I wish they also sold bread.
  • zomg! fab website, awesome! and they'll open at 7 a.m. M-F!!! hurrah!
  • Carnivore wrote: I wish they also sold bread.
yeah. I do, too. but I kinda figured from the name she wouldn't.

does delicacies carry fresh bread from a local bakery?
  • I think I'm gonna open a milk stand next to this place
Skim, 1%, 2%, whole, organic, soy, rice, almond... no nutmilk though...

Will they be laced with amphetamines?

  • Great, now I have "Singin' in the rain," stuck in my head!!! :x :x :x
  • In answer to alafairnadia's question, yes, Delicacies does carry bread, mostly baguetts of various types. I'm not sure exactly where it's from, but it's pretty damn good. Get there early, especially on Saturdays.
  • So they may not be planning on bread, but here's what Joyce wrote back to me when I wrote to her to tell her I was looking forward to the opening:
We're working hard to wade through our inspections in order to bring the bakeshop to Prospect Heights by late-June.

In addition to our pastries, we're also going to serve Gorilla coffee and SerendipiTea teas.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
Mmmmm. Gorilla coffee. This place is going to be good.
  • Alafairnadia,

Can you tell us more about Half possibly re-opening? I hope that's true, because I miss that place. I've been craving a toastie and a good glass of wine.

I just heard that they took delivery of a bunch of beer from Brooklyn breweries. that's all I know. but a place that's closed down doesn't usually take a wholesale beer delivery. that's ALL I know.
  • pulsivism wrote: Gorilla coffee??? Thank God! Now I don't have to walk 3 long blocks for my crack coffee fix! I only have to walk one short block! drive muddy waters out!
I'm wondering to what extent they'll serve Gorilla... just drip or espresso, too? I suspect the former, 'cause I think the latter would... well, let's put it this way - it would become more of a coffee shop and less of a bakery, and that doesn't look like what they're about...
  • putz wrote: i'm disappointed with joyce's - would take a fresh baguette over a $2.50 cupcake any day.
I was hoping for baguettes too. I bet the profit margin's a lot better on a $2.50 cupcake than on a baguette!
  • Joyce must be pretty close to opening. Look at this from craigslist:

Friendly neighborhood start up bakery seeks counter help to serve up coffee, espresso and pastries with a smile in the AM hours. Must be responsible, efficient, punctual and have a positive attitude. Saturdays required. Experience preferred but willing to train the right person. FT/PT available.

    * Job location is Prospect Heights
    * Compensation: $7.50/hour

  • espresso! the right person! oh yeah.
  • if only it were a vegan bakeshop...
  • vanilla wrote: if only it were a vegan bakeshop...
they have some dairy free items on the menu. you should email joyce and find out if they're TRULY dairy free or just milk free ...
  • i actually just emailed them hoping for atleast one type of vegan cupcake or muffin... wow, with gorilla coffee?! that would totally rule...
  • A little update from Joyce Bakeshop, they are trying to open on Monday!! If only Con-Ed would speed this process along by actually giving them some gas....
  • I was all excited for a cupcake tomorrow--Aug 28--but now the website says "doors swing open August 30". Soon, soon.
