Electronic Parts/Radio Parts Shop in Brooklyn?
I've had very little luck finding any electronic parts suppliers in Brooklyn (or Manhattan, for that matter) and I'm starting to think that my search queries might be the issue (all I'm finding are Radioshacks and sketchy cell phone repair shops).
I'm looking for what Radioshack was 10-15 years ago - a store full of bins of pots and resistors, ICs of all shapes and sizes and LEDs of all colors. Is there some electronics DIY heaven that I've been missing somehow? Preferably in south Brooklyn?
And I don't want to order parts on the internet since many of my projects are born from aimlessly wandering down isles of parts.
Thanks for any recommendations you might have!

Years ago I found several shops like that on 46th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues in Manhattan. I don't know whether they are still there, however.

That's a start! Cheers.

There used to be more random surplus joints, especially at the far end of Canal Street (from this direction) and out around Coney Island. But I never really looked for a supply shop that you're talking about. I don't have the same need for physical browsing that you do, but I wonder if you get the Mouser and Digikey catalogs? They're a lot of fun to browse through. In fact, both of their web sites used to be just images of pages from their catalogs (might still be--didn't bother to check).
You've piqued my curiosity now, though, and I'm interested in knowing if such a place exists. -
Sorry to say, those kinds of stores are now gone from NYC (and when i've needed similar stuff in LA i've had to go to Burbank). On the bright side, the internet + globalization have more than made up for it, but the shopping experience can be very frustrating (I spent months looking for a certain kind of pushbutton for a project, buying different ones until I found the ones I'd settle for).
Places i turn to online now are Newark Electronics & Allied Electronics. Digikey and Mouser are good, as are Parts Express and MCM Electronics.
