JANUARY-FEBRUARY FICTION/NONFICTION WORKSHOP IN PARK SLOPE
Email Brooke Shaffner at [email protected] if interested.
Writers in this workshop will investigate and discuss aspects of craft—plot structure, scene development, point of view, pacing, characterization, conflict, setting, tone, language, imagery, dialogue, beginnings, and endings—in both student submissions and published works. Optional writing prompts for inspiration and developing craft techniques will be offered. By sharpening their ability to discern and evaluate the stylistic and structural choices in the work of others, students will develop the ability to better manipulate craft elements in their own work.
Each writer has the opportunity to submit twice (stories, essays, articles, flash fiction, novel excerpts, etc.) and receives written critiques from the instructors and the other workshop members, as well as an individual conference with the instructors. We will meet weekly at the 440 Gallery, an intimate storefront gallery in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Dates: This workshop will start in the first week of January and meet one night per week from 7:30 to 9:30. Dates will be determined based upon student availability. Two writers will be workshopped in each session, so the number of meetings (4 to 8) will depend on the number of students who enroll. Enrollment is capped at 8 students.
Cost: $350
