Classon Ave. and St. Marks — Brooklynian

Classon Ave. and St. Marks

I found out that developers are trying to turn the building on the corner into a diner. Does anyone know what's going on in the middle of the block between Classon and Franklin? There has been work going for some time. I've heard rumors of a grocery store.

Comments

  • Nick from ILFA said a grocery store on Bergen. Looks like the awning is up, but no sign. Hope it's decent. A very welcome and needed addition to the nabe.

  • on ilovefranklinave it says the supermarket will be in a jewish hospital building on st marks. is that what you're talking about?

  • Is it safe?

  • Yes St. Marks, my bad.

  • The leader of our tenant association reports:

"As many of you know, our friend's Tiny Urban Park project on this corner ended this summer, and several months later, a plywood construction fence went up in its place.

"In April, a representative from Alma Realty's architect filed a permit for the plywood fence, and it was approved in May of this year. As for what's going on behind that fence . . . according to the construction workers, other Alma people, and vague indications from permits filed with the DOB, the SW corner of Classon and St. Mark's Avenues will be transformed into a coffee shop.

"The work permits, which you can view here: http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/BScanVirtualJobFolderServlet?requestid=4&allisn=0001703735&passjobnumber=320086143&passdocnumber=01&allbin=3337837 give little more indication as to what the final use will be, but it was interesting to learn that that little building was once an animal laboratory.

"The work permits all need to be posted in a weatherproof, conspicuous place. If they are not, feel free to call 311 to report it. Also, there should be a large sign on the construction site that identifies the owner of the property, the architect, and other relevant information. If this is not there, it should be reported to the DOB by calling 311. If you see anything that evidences unsafe working conditions, please feel free to call 311 and report these, as well.

"Finally, if work is done before 7:00 AM and after 10:00 PM Sunday through Saturday, you may feel free to complain to 311, as construction noise is prohibited in the city of New York during these times."

  • progress is visible every day. new awning went up at the grocery store, and workers are still at the soon-to-be diner right now. exciting for the block.
