BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, December 15, Irondale Ensemble presents a return engagement of their critically acclaimed alice...Alice...ALICE!, an original, environmental performance piece, based on the beloved Lewis Carroll classic, Alice in Wonderland, directed by Jim Niesen and designed by Ken Rothchild. Called “minimal but inventive” and acclaimed for the company’s “supple acting” by The New York Times, the audience follows the ensemble down the rabbit hole into Wonderland, -- the nooks, crannies, recesses of the theater itself . This unique, adventurous performance exploration will be vastly different from other theatrical presentations and the audience is encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, don't let the stairs, attics, and over-crofts keep you away! Get ready to enter a strange and wonderful world that the general public seldom sees with the Irondale company as your guide.
Created by the ensemble as an imaginative, colorful performance piece, alice...Alice...ALICE! will appeal to audiences of all ages. For adults, Alice presents themes of darkness, the unknown and the discontent of enchantment. Irondale’s version addresses themes of growing up in an age where there are no “real” children, an age where gated communities, protective parents and fear of the unknown have created deep fears of “safe” settings. For the younger audiences, alice...Alice...ALICE!<font face="Calibri">, takes them on a magical journey of story telling and adventure where extraordinary settings and creative costumes permeate their minds on both conscious and unconscious levels. There is something here for everyone, and this fascinating show has the skill and wit to appeal to a wide audience on many different levels.
alice...Alice...ALICE! is a combination of text from the novel and improvisation. The play is punctuated by an eclectic mix of music used in surprising and thought provoking contexts.
