beet...still beat

Just wanted to thank beet for leaving at least 6 menus on the stoop of every single building on PPW the other day. Sushi Master, you also done good. Nice technique, too - not secured or stuck in the door or anything, but just tossed out in the open like so much litter. I'm sure I'll be seeing those things blowing around for months. Just so you know, I got home pretty early yesterday and recycled the ones you left around our entryway instantly - nobody else even saw them.

I know it's not the crime of the century, but beet really took the mildly annoying practice of menu/flyer dumping to the next level.

beet - still the suck.

We also instantly "recycle" all menus that appear on our block. Just our little form of protest.
  • That totally drives me nuts, it is so annoying! Disrespectful to people's property and the environment. Throwing litter all over my stoop is the best way to guarantee that I will never give a business my money.
  • Somebody told me of an interesting solution/payback.

Take a piece of black (or otherwise dark) paper, leave a strip of white at the top saying "Stop leaving menus on our street" and fax it in to them.

The dark color will eat up all of the ink on their fax machine.

I haven't done this, but I thought it was at least creative and got the point across.

I don't take the menus or the weekly food/drug store circulars either. Straight to the recycling bin.
  • I can't say I'm surprised that this complaint is leveled against BEET.

As Drano alludes to above, a few months back we had a series of posts about BEET on dailyslope.com that sounded suspiciously like BEET's owners, employees, or friends shilling for the place with effusive reviews.

And just today, I discovered that there was MORE suspected shilling for Beet on Yelp.com. I can't find the exact reviews in question (maybe they were deleted), but here is the complaint:
"On the same day, we get three rave reviews for this place from three people who never wrote a review before . . . how suspicious is THAT???!!!"
I wonder if they are banned yet on Chowhound for similar offenses? What do you know, Muk?
  • Hmm, doesn't look like they are banned yet. A quick search on the Outer Boroughs board (http://www.chowhound.com/boards/outer/outer.html) yielded multiple hits.

Oh, but they can run only so long...
