who supplies coverings during house repiar?

apartment blues
edited November -1 in Park Slope

Hey everyone,

My landlord is coming over tomorrow to install a new ceiling and asked me to cover my things up with some kind of covering.

Isn't it the responsibility of the landlord to bring coverings during work such as painting and ceiling repair?

Thanks in advance.

I may post this over at Tenant.net as well, but such questions seems to get many more (and many quicker) responses here.

  • hmmmm.

If my landlord told me this, I would stop by the hardware store on my way home and buy a $11 worth of cheapo drop cloths and $4 of blue painters tape to cover my furniture.

...and then, once the project is done, thank him for letting me know it was going to be messy and that I should protect my stuff from the debris.

I would not care who should pay the $15.

I would offer him the used drop plastic drop cloths when the job was done.

    Go ye to Pinchik

  • It has taken my landlord about three months and I have already been a nice person by not filing a complaint. The guy has been sick and I have been patient. I guess there is just a lot of history with this guy. So I appreciate your suggestion whynot and may just go do that.

  • Take it from me, you want to cover it yourself so you know a good job was done. Might I suggest not just covering but taping it down.

  • I'm with the others, especially if it's taken this long, you want to protect your own stuff. You can get some cheap plastic drop clothes at a hardware store (I know Leopoldi's has these and would guess any hardware store does as well). I might even get an extra one and to tell the workers to use if they need it--in case the ones you put down break anywhere or to help them have a spot to collect waste so they will clean up more of it.
