debris tree pits near vandy prospect
has anyone else noticed that a bunch of tree pits around the corners of vandy and prospect and now vandy and st. marks have had a bunch of construction debris dumped in them? it wasn't such a big deal when it was random rocks, but then it moved on to old, broken chunks of cinderblock and now has degenerated to sandy junk, small chunks of masonry and concrete, broken glass, old tile, etc.
the worst hit seem to be the 3 on the northeast corner of prospect at vanderbilt, right outside the mythical bagel shop under construction. http://brooklynian.com/forum/prospect-heights/new-resto-at-prospect-and-vanderbilt
there are pits along the east side of vandy and now also st. marks at vandy that have been hit as well. anyone know who i could call about this? it is not good for the trees, and it's also just unsafe and dirty.

Same thing on Sterling between Franklin and Washington. It's been happening over the last 8 weeks.
Someone suggested the tree pit excavations west of Washington as being to blame. I thought it unlikely that city crews would do this, but I've noticed that this task has been undertaken by private contractors, who I wouldn't put past it.
Time to start calling 311.

any suggestions on what to say when i call 311? i have had the frustrating experience of being shuttled back and forth between sanitation (which doesn't seem to care unless i know who is doing the dumping) and transportation (which doesn't seem to care about the pits, as long as the sidewalks are passable). parks, maybe?

Seems like the Department of Parks is responsible for this

I would also mention that these trees were heavily damaged during the tornado and that the garbage is just going to cause more damage to them.Maybe you can help this guy out and get it done quicker

good link, thanks! about dailyclean - it's a good idea, and i've thought about it. problem is that even assuming i could move those large chunks of cmu, rocks, etc., i don't have a place to put them. you're not supposed to put construction debris in regular garbage (which, no doubt, is the reason why they were dumped in the first place).
