so who should be consider a minority? — Brooklynian

so who should be consider a minority?

these type of thoughts etc.. are said in private alot. so i wonder who should be consider one?

Speaking to a candidates’ forum Wednesday on black-oriented WVON radio, the South Side state senator said it’s unacceptable that the share of city contracts going to African-American-owned businesses has shrunk in recent years.

“I think that the word ‘minority,’ from our standpoint, should mean African-American," Meeks said. "I don’t think women, Asians and Hispanics should be able to use that title. That’s why our numbers cannot improve, because we use women, Asians and Hispanics, who are not people of color, who are not people who have been discriminated against. We fought for these laws based on discrimination. Now, groups that have not been discriminated against are the chief beneficiaries.”

State Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) said she agreed with Meeks, at least in part. Davis said white women should be excluded from affirmative action programs.

  • In the same way you've defended the criminal and thuggish behavior of China because the USA behaved similarly, black people feel they've done the heavy lifting regarding discrimination only to have others get in the same line. The psychology is similar. What's not to understand?

  • addendum: I am wondering though if you simply google "Meeks" on occasion since you seem to have nothing else to do being retired and all just to get riled up and came up with this story from Chicago. You know this is from a small black radio station in Chicago don't you?

  • Im a minority.. i believe people should work for a living and handouts should be non existant... they call people like us republicans

  • Maybe you don't believe in "handouts" but are you so principled you wouldn't hire a black woman to hold the "slow/stop" sign at a construction site if it gave you priority on city contracts for businesses that hire "minorities"?
