or, do you know who does?

i've passed by there a few times recently and seen quite a few cats. i know someone feeds them because there is food out in bowls, etc. none of the cats i've seen are ear-tipped, and they seem friendly. do they "belong" to someone? does anyone know if they are spayed/neutered and if they have feral cat winter shelters somewhere among the construction equipment and debris in the lot?

if you are the person who feeds them and you might be interested in obtaining shelters for them, please contact me.

thanks!

  • Are you offering shelter?

That empty lot is a feral colony with many abandoned/stray cats included in the mix. The locals feed them, but they need vet care. So sad, especially in this weather. Just horrible :(

  • no, i am not offering shelter, but possibly shetlerS. as in, making or buying a few, assuming i could get access to the lot to put them inside.

also wondering about initiating TNR there, if there is nobody currently trapping, neutering and monitoring for other medical needs.

  • Talk to the owners of Pintchik. That is their lot. The wife the refuses to allow access to help the cats, and just wants them gone.

  • I miss the yowling stray cats that used to live on a lot once filled with junky cars on President or Carroll between Fourth and Third Avenues. Now hot rods are parked there and the cats are gone, fleeing gentrification along with the Third Ave. ladies of the night.

  • about two years ago when I was hunting for my missing cat, I was told that there was an old lady who fed those cats in the building yard at the top of Bergen and Flatbush. They obviously had food and water daily and were looking quite fat.Recently when I've walked by I have only seen one cat but I have seen food left out. I get the impression they are feral but are being fed. Whether thats a good situation or whether anyone has tried to house them I don't know. Its really hard to think of cats living outside in this weather.

  • @tsarina, that makes me sad. i guess i will try talking to her, though if you (or others) haven't had any luck with her i'm not that optimistic. i wish those kitties had been able to have shelters before this blizzard.

  • The majority of the cats in that lot were TNR'd last year, they were all completely feral as far as I know. There is an older kinda crazy lady that was feeding them but not sure about that now. The wife of Pintchik's owner was a huge bitch and didn't help the situation at all, strange since it was being done without any help from them.

  • Unfortunately only some of the cats in that area were TNR'd. The cats that also frequented the crazy lady's backyard were done but there are many that were left uneartipped. Pintchik owns the lot and is the only people that will be able to give you entrance into that area. Pintchink was a jerk to me when I tried to neuter them but he was kind to one of my friends when she reached out to him - even gave her a donation and posted on his billboard about National Feral Cat Day. He told me that he didn't want me to do TNR anywhere around the lot due to a liability. The cats desperately need shelter and to be TNR'd. Thank you for reaching out and discussing this on the forum. If you would like my friend's e-mail that was able to win Pinchink over then PM me. She may be able to offer some suggestions. She is no longer in NY or else she would probably be all over this.
