Prospect Park - 15th St F/G station closed until MAY!?!? — Brooklynian

Prospect Park - 15th St F/G station closed until MAY!?!?

Via FIPS and the MTA: no service at the 15th St/Prospect Park F/G station from Jan until May!

Yes, I know the station may be considered Windsor Terrace, but it's on the edge of the Slope and lots of South Slopers (myself included) use this station.

  • Correction: no Manhattan bound service until May. Coney Island-bound trains are still stopping.

  • Well, they better be building a spa in it or something, if they're going to take that long.

  • Wow, that really sucks.

My stop is 7th ave, but you have my sympathy. That's going to completely screw up the commute of anyone who uses that subway stop and works in Manhattan, which I imagine is a lot of people. And those are the worst months to have to walk an extra eight blocks in the morning.

Does that mean that when they're done they'll close the other direction for 5 months?

  • I am literally sick to my stomach after reading this. Also, worth noting, I haven't seen ANY signage in the station about this.

I remember reading about the plan to repair the culver viaduct, but this wasn't the original plan - I thought Smith / 9th street was the stop that was going to be skipped, not 15th.

Glad I just paid $104 for an unlimited Metrocard. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccckkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I suppose the only thing to do is to think of it as an opportunity to get more exercise. hooray for fitness!

  • If you read the MTA info, it looks like it's going to be a rotating clusterfuck at various stations for a looooong time.

    Future Phases

of the Culver Viaduct Rehabilitation Project

    Smith-9 Sts station

Late Fall 2011 to Spring 2012

15 St-Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Pkwy stations

No Coney Island-bound F Line and Church Av-bound G Line trains.

Church Av and 7 Av stations

All southbound trains stop on the express track.

    4 Av-9 St station

Coney Island-bound F Line and Church Av-bound G Line trains are accessed via a temporary platform.

    Spring 2012 to Fall 2012

    Smith-9 Sts station

No Coney Island-bound F Line trains.

Church Av-bound G Line trains are accessed via a temporary platform.

  • Here's hoping they don't fuck with Union Street.

  • I'm still hoping that I'll wake up and this will all be a bad dream....

  • I agree there haven't been any signs in the 15th St station but I do recall seeing something about this before they started the project and getting kind of PO'ed at the time. The 2nd Ave saga link has some of the old information.

It sucks big time, no doubt, esp. for those who depend on the impacted stations but having lived through some prior subway construction, life will go on....it will just be slightly less convenient. Having said that, this is NYC and people love to complain (still hearing complaints about the snow!) so we'll probably have to live with the impact and the complaining for awhile.

As of last notice, it starts Jan 17. There's a one week reprieve for 15th St because of the snow forecast, not sure about the close-all-the-stations-including-7th-Ave thing that was going to happen this weekend...

  • All subway disruptions for this weekend are canceled.
