Good idea. We could probably start one. Any other takers?
-
Yes please add Bed Stuy to the forum.
-
yes, you should have one!! I wanted to touch upon the riot/ police brutality issue that happened like 2 weeks ago on Nostrand and Fulton…
-
can you tell others so we can get the bed-stuy blog up and running?
-
Here is a blog that has occasional posts about what's going on on fulton street. This is part of the Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Distric and Fulton-Nostrand Revitalization Project: http://urbanchange.typepad.com/fultonnostrand/

Subject: EMILY yes, i would like a board also
For some reason I thought Bed Stuy was included in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill board, but obviously it isn't.
Thanks! -
Does anyone volunteer to mod a new board? Jaha?
BTW, the people with the ability to add boards (i.e. admins not mods) have various stuff going on over the next couple of weeks, so it might not get done for a bit. Just so you know we haven't forgotten. -

I have no problem being the mod for the new board, but I just want to put it out there that I don't actually live in Bed Stuy... I just frequent the area often. So if no one has a problem with that, that I will be glad to do it.

Okay, so I want to preface everything that I am about to say with the fact that I wasn’t actually there when this happened…
But basically during the weekend of June 9th there was some sort of altercation between the police and residents of Bed Stuy. Apparently the cops ran into the back of someone’s car and the force of impact caused that car to plow into a store window. This happened during the daytime… so everyone on Nostrand Ave (and Fulton I believe) came running over to see what happened/ and make sure the driver was okay.
So according to a couple of people I talked to, the cops began to tell individuals to “keep it moving†and not to stand around the scene. This caused the crowd to begin to become irate and start arguing with the police. Basically they were saying “It was the cops fault†& “We aren’t moving… make sure you note that it was the cops faultâ€Â.
The police became angry… and began to try and arrest some of the hecklers. So this caused “A†to lead to “Bâ€Â…. and a few of the people who were being arrested began to resist arrest, which somehow led to the police punching and clubbing the crowd….
So as I mentioned earlier I wasn’t there. I am only mentioning this because I heard about it from a variety of people in the neighborhood… and I when I got off the C train at Nostrand I received a flyer about a community meeting about this situation. Before writing this post I searched all over the internet… and random media sources for additional details and I didn’t find any…
If you have any additional information please let us know…. also if I got any of these details feel free to correct me… -
Thanks Emily and Jaha!!!

So when do you get a Bed Stuy forum?

Guys, Andy wanted to add this to the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill board, so that's what we did.

So, is this how Bedford-Stuyvesant became the bastard child of this board? Bed-Stuy isn't in the same place that FG or CH is; it really deserves its own forums so that we can address the many issues specific to it. And not to mention the many stupid comments we have to endure about BS from the FG & CH sides of this forum. Clearly, none of the administrators of this board live in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Does anyone know where I can find a board devoted to "living" in Bedford-Stuyvesant (i.e., not the merchant oriented sites)? -
I understand your wanting a separate forum for Bed-Stuy, BK Allday, but I find many of the things our fellow Clinton Hillers and Fort Greeners say very useful. You say that Bed-Stuy isn't in the same place as FG or CH. What does that mean? I guarantee you that if we did have a forum, some of the BSers would start talking about Bread Stuy or Brownstone Books or issues way over there on Fulton Street. That's practically four or five time zones away from where I live in Bed-Stuy, and therefore not very useful.
I also think that many of our FG and CH friends have avoided any "stupid comments" about our nabe. In fact, I'd argue that many FG/CH-ers have been quick to defend BS when someone makes some erroneous statement about the neighborhood. -
And not to mention the many stupid comments we have to endure about BS from the FG & CH sides of this forum.
Do you have examples? -
The Changeling wrote: I understand your wanting a separate forum for Bed-Stuy, BK Allday, but I find many of the things our fellow Clinton Hillers and Fort
Well, since you put it that way, I guess I'll just suppress my desire to want to be more adequately represented.
I appreciate what our neighbors in FG & CH say as well; I didn't suggest that they be excluded from commenting on a BS board...if in fact, they'd still stop by to comment. So unless you're suggesting that a Bed-Stuy board w/o input from our more gentrified neighbors to the west is meaningless, I'm not sure I understand.
And by a "different place", what I mean is that Bed-Stuy isn't as gentrified. So while FG & CH posters are discussing choices among a particular service, we in BS are often looking for just one....and I often find my questions/concerns unanswered.
Lastly, I'm not going to entertain any evidentiary requests for negative comments re Bed-Stuy. If you're not noticing them, you're probably one of the ones making them. -

What time zone of Bed-Stuy are you in, anyway? Don't suppress your desire to be more adequately represented on my account. Do what you like. Just make sure that if you do decide to represent BS, you make it clear what part of BS you're representing. Right now all of my neighborhood info. needs are being addressed on the FG/CH/BS board, but that's because I'm in the northwestern reaches of the neighborhood. If it turns out that you're able to create a board that better addresses my needs (READ: a board that does not talk about developments/services in the streets around A/C stations, Restoration Plaza, Stuy Heights, etc.) or anyone else's needs for that matter, then I would love to see a BS board happen.
To clarify, I'm not suggesting that a BS board without input from our FG/CH neighbors is meaningless, I'm just suggesting that I (and some other BS folk as well I assume) find that being part of the FG/CH board more than adequate. -

OK folks, bad idea. The Changeling's needs are being met with the status quo so if you're interested in the services and goings on of any part of Bed Stuy other than the NW that borders CH, then you're S.O.L. We can all go home now. I'm glad we got that settled. (WANK WANK WANK)
Changeling: Your quip about the time zones only reinforces my point. If BS is big enough such that you can joke about your new neighborhood having different timezones, why would it make sense that it shares a board with 2 other nabes? Don't you think that the more equitable solution is that BS gets its own board and you can continue to be active on the FG/CH board since it appeals to YOU more. -
BK Allday wrote: ....and I often find my questions/concerns unanswered.
again, do you have any examples?
I don't see how inclusion of FG/CH prevents you from getting your 'answers'. -
Uh, BK Allday, you need to read a post before you quote it and respond to it. I said, "If it turns out that you're able to create a board that better addresses my needs, OR ANYONE ELSE'S NEEDS FOR THAT MATTER, THEN I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A BS BOARD HAPPEN. You're misinterpreting me if you think I said that there should be no BS board just because I find the current offering acceptable.
You pose a good question, though. If I've been complaining that the neighborhood is too big, then why would I be less than enthusiastic about a board that deals only with BS? Because I have a suspicion, based on many of the BS posts on this board, that a BS board will be even less relevant to my day-to-day life than the info. I'm getting from the current board. If I remember correctly, someone (was it you?) mentioned on another thread that they didn't like having to cherry pick information on this board just to get BS info. I don't like having to do that either. All I'm saying is that for me, if a BS board is created, then I will need to cherry pick on two boards instead of one. But the people on the borders of two neighborhoods would have the choice, as you mentioned, to be active on more than one board if necessary so quit your yapping, throw up the BS board, and get on with it. -

Well put. Man, you're good! -

This discussion seems to be fueled more by perceived insult ("my hood deserves it's own board!!")rather than a practical discussion of what makes the most sense for a message board that covers a huge borough. I've enjoyed learning more about BS and hearing comments from BS residents as the neighborhood is right next to mine and the more I know about it, the better.
I'm still waiting to see a practical argument against the current set up that isn't tinged with BK Allday's obvious snarkiness and unfounded accusations. (I asked you to expand on a point you made and you not only refused but you accused me (incorrectly) of making derogatory comments about BS. Nice one, man.)
The only argument against this set up I've seen is that some of you don't want to be troubled with having to skim a list of topics and not click on ones that don't have to do with BS. Well, putting three geographically adjacent neighborhoods together that are all served by the same subways and buses seems to make sense to me. It promotes knowledge of close-by neighborhoods. And if the downside is that some of you have to be troubled to skim a list of topics, I don't think that's reason enough to reorganize these boards.
I'd love to continue discussing this topic, but spare me the unfounded claims and accusations. There's no need for a combative tone. It doesn't achieve anything. -

Aside from "why does Bed-Stuy not have its own board," what questions or concerns have you even expressed? -
MOD NOTE: We add boards (or split them into smaller areas) as traffic warrants. It's kind of a toss up with this one -- BS by itself would be a lonely lonely board at this point. So far the site admin has opted to keep this trio together to keep the board more active.
So if you want more Bed-Stuy, post more Bed-Stuy. And get your neighbors here. If anyone reading this is doing an active Bed-Stuy community blog and would like to hook up with a message board, send a pm to DailyHeights. The Red Hook board started here in partnership with the blog b61productions.com.
And play nice please ("WANK WANK", I'm talking to you)
Rules for this board are linked at the top of every page under READ THE RULES. If you follow that link, you'll find a video of the Staples Singers "Respect Yourself" -
You're right guys..I'm sorry about the vitriol; it wasn't necessary. I just felt that the answers I was getting were patronizing. And pitu's right in that I should put my efforts where my mouth is and help generate interest in a BS board if I think one is warranted. So I'll either wait (I'm actually from a very patient people)...or find one elsewhere. Thx.
