The What and Why of Music Adventures!

Children are natural explorers and our classes both nurture and encourage their fascination with the world, as they grow, our program grows with them allowing the amazing adventure to continue!

The Music Adventures Program is based on a sequentially themed and developmentally nurturing structure. Children learn best through imitation and sensory experiences. Our program encourages creative expression through music and dance and the related arts.

A former president of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association said that the Brooklyn Conservatory Music Adventures program “reflected a serious commitment to music education for the young child as an exciting and challenging experience… (it) was one of the best programs I had seen in the U.S.”[b]

Each class is balanced with games and exercises to foster expressive movement and is geared to engage children in active music making on xylophones and other pitched and non-pitched percussive instruments. Classes range in theme and focus and start at ages 18 months and go all the way to 9 years old.

The classes (all classes run once a week) consist of:

Parent/Child class (45 min, 18mths – 3 yrs)

Early Childhood Class (60 mins, 3yrs-6yrs)

Advanced Adventures/BCM Children’s Chorus (60 min, 6yrs-9yrs)

Music Makes Me Move! (60 mins, various ages)

Studies show that exposure to music at a young age plays an important role in developing a life-long appreciation of the arts, as well as improving academic and social development. It is also a fun, interactive way to introduce a classroom structure to your child.

Beyond the strong foundation in musical and movement training, Music Adventures promotes higher self-esteem and self-confidence, helps children gain awareness of their voices and bodies, and promotes good social behavior, interaction, and teamwork in a positive environment.

Brooklyn Conservatory of Music is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit community schools of the arts in the nation. The Conservatory serves more than 7,000 people each year, of all ages and backgrounds, through free and subsidized music instruction; education and music therapy programs in over 50 schools and community-based organizations; and free and inexpensive concerts.
