FREE Demo Theater Classes for Kids this Tues and Thurs with Child's Play NY

Child's Play NY - a Brooklyn-based theater school for children - is offering free demo classes Tuesday (1/25) and Thursday (1/27) for our after-school acting classes.

Our classes are nurturing and imaginative explorations into acting and storytelling, taught by performing arts professionals. We foster creativity, collaboration and confidence in young people ages 3-10. Child's Play NY is currently at Packer Collegiate Institute, the Greene Hill School and NY Kids Club Brooklyn Heights.

Here is a look at the upcoming session and the free classes:



Tuesday 1/25: Story Play ages 5-6

In weekly sessions, children tap into their creativity and intrinsic sense of play. We play theatre games that inspire self-expression and build characters that give voice to their unique personalities. Into each class is woven a fable or fairy-tale which the class re-interprets and which spring-boards improvisation. Techniques of acting as well as specific voice and movement work are an integral part of the curriculum. Visual arts, mask, puppetry and costume augment the workshop and support imagination. The classes culminate in a performance of a story on the last day of class.

Thursday 1/27: Wee Play ages 3-4

Children explore story-telling, song and creative movement in this class for the youngest of thespians. Using their bodies, voices and minds, students re-interpret classic and contemporary children's literature and are inspired to create their own adventures. Simple props and costumes help them bring their characters to life. Connections are made to literature and the world around them. Classes encourage creative expression and confidence. The last day of class is open for family and friends.

Our daughter has loved her time with Child's Play NY this fall. Each week she came home with enthusiasm and silly stories of class. Jocelyn is an engaging and enthusiastic teacher that has created a nurturing and fun environment. It is a great program that we are thrilled to have our daughter a part of.
