Do you play tennis? you have just until tomorrow to prevent a doubling of fee
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycrules/html/proposed/comment_form.shtml?agency=DPR&rule=Fee Increases
We just received notice from Steve Levin's office that the Parks Dep't plans to go forward with a massive increase in permit fees -- from $100 to $200 annually, and $7 to $15 per play.
We have exactly ONE DAY to submit comments opposing these increases. One thing we've learned is that a few concerned citizens can actually influence city policy, so click here to post a comment.
We recommend pointing out that the tennis fees are fundamentally unfair -- they're much higher on a per person basis than softball fees, pool permits, use of lit fields (where the city has to pay for electricity!) or any other organized sport (compare the proposed fee increases in other sports here).
And worse, the city doesn't even perform basic maintenance on the courts or provide consistent, trained attendants. We pay and get nothing in return.
We have to fight this or we'll all be paying for our failure to do so for years to come. Please comment today. It will be too late tomorrow.

Commenting is now closed because the hearing was yesterday, but if you are concerned about the proposed doubling of fees for public tennis (from $100-$200), recreation centers and indoor public pools....please contact:

Thanks for the email address. I just wrote a letter agains the new fees. It's really expensive to play tennis here as it is. We left the Prospect Park facility after learning it would be something like $40 an hour for a court at night.
