I just got here and I know networking is important when trying to get gigs--but there are a lot of places opening up and maybe I'm off base thinking they have a "nightlife" angle. but I'm trying to find places I can spin low-key/non-low-key jams for a crowd. I've been spinning for a while and want to keep it up!

do you all think this is way off-base? I'm really good!

The former owner of Prospect Pond (on Washington Ave) had DJs regularly.

I don't know if the new owners plan to.

...the place just changed ownership.

Tavern on Dean just reopened as "The Dean", and might also not have DJs set up yet.

If you spin country and western tunes, try talking some sense into Branded Cattle. They've done a poor job of living up to their alleged honky-tonk theme.

Check out Minor Arcana on Washington, last night the owner was talking about starting a " gay night for the boys " in the near future maybe they would be interested in a DJ too.

Delissa Reynolds, owner of Sepia (Underhill @ Lincoln, Prospect Heights), often uses local DJ's. Have no idea how she chooses or what rotation system between her regular DJ's is in effect, but she's worth talking to. Sepia is a very chill, relaxing locals neighborhood establishment.

I hate to say "everything" but I'm interested in a lot of different stuff... disco, funk, soul, house, r&b, new jack, hip-hop etc. etc.

my "bread and butter" would probably be early house stuff but I am pretty much willing to spin whatever.

I was going to suggest sweet revenge in bed stuy or kilis on hoyt st. Those are places I am fairly certain have turntables and where you would not have to promote to be able to spin. A lot of times if you are unkown these places want a guarantee of how many people you will bring.
