Just saw this billboard on the BQE:

Questions:
1. Is this for real?
2. Why didn't I think of this?

Well... this thread took off like wildfire. Anyway, I did find out more about this company:
parkingtickets.com promises to help you fight your parking tickets, and get them dismissed or reduced. However, they charge you half of the ticket price UP FRONT before agreeing to fight your ticket for you. Of cours, they have a guarantee: "...if your ticket is not dismissed or reduced, you pay us nothing!"
So what happens if the city reduces the ticket by LESS than the amount of your service fee? In that case, you might end up paying MORE than you would have paid by simply not fighting the ticket. For example, if the ticket is $100 and they only reduce it by $10, then you actually pay $90 + $50 service fee = $140, or $40 more than simply paying the ticket outright.
It seems like a bit of a gamble. Am I misunderstanding how this works? Has nobody here tried the service yet? -
I have used this service to fight one ticket, and it appears to have been successful.
Essentially parkingticket.com is a bunch of former Parking Violation Board (PVB) hearing administrators who understand the system and technicalities well, and try to find picayune errors in every parking ticket that can cause those tickets to be dismissed. For example, on my ticket my car was described as a "sedan" when it in fact it is a "four door sedan". They generate a detailed legalese letter that you send to PVB asking for your ticket to be dismissed. If you lose, they then send you an appeal letter for you to submit. (My ticket was dismissed on appeal, although I haven't yet received my refund from PVB, which is why I said before that it appears to have been successful).
Their fee is 1/2 of the ticket amount or 1/2 of the amount of the ticket reduction. You pay them 1/2 of your ticket amount up front. Their charge is refunded to you if they are unable to get you a dismissal or reduction of your ticket.
The only thing I don't like about the site is that there is absolutely no way to talk to anyone there, or find out where they are. Their "contact us" box lets you send them a message, but there is no phone number. -
Here is the whois data for the website:
Domain Name: PARKINGTICKET.COM
Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Zone Contact:

Everyone who registers a domain name has to provide information to the registrar. Doesn't have to be accurate, but they do have to provide something. Might be the web developer, might be the owner's cousin, but there you have it. -
OOPS... just got a clarification from the parkingtickets.com help desk. The fee is 50% of what you SAVE. So if they knock $10 off the ticket, their fee is $5, if they get a $100 ticket dismissed, the fee is $50, etc. In no circumstances would you end up paying more than the face value of the ticket.
You do have to submit your payment in advance, though. For example, if the ticket is $100, you have to give parkingtickets.com a $50 payment... if they get the ticket dismissed or reduced, then they refund your money, apparently.
