35th Anniversary World Famous Spring Equinox Celebration at Grand Army Plaza
EGGS STAND AGAIN
35th Anniversary World Famous Spring Equinox Celebration
Donna Henes, New York City's own urban shaman, will once again inaugurate spring with her world famous Vernal Equinox Celebration,
Eggs on End: Standing on Ceremony
This year's eggstraordinary event will take place:
March 20 at 7:00PM
UNDER THE ARCH
GRAND ARMY PLAZA, BROOKLYN
The equinox moment: eggsactly 7:21PM, signals the official start of spring. At this time, the sun crosses the equator into the Northern Hemisphere and it is possible to stand an egg up on its end.
According to Chinese custom, if you stand an egg on its end on the first day of spring, you will have eggsceptionally good luck for the entire year. The egg represents the life force in many cultures, and is particularly used to symbolize the rebirth of nature in the spring season.
A basket of 360 eggs will be provided for the standing ceremony. Participants are invited to bring drums and other musical instruments to augment this popular Vernal Celebration.
This popular event has been featured in the NY Times, The New Yorker, Omni, USA Today and on television across North America, Europe and Japan. Commenting on air about Henes’ Equinox Event, Dan Rather announced, “Frankly, I for one do not doubt it.”
