Spring cannot come too soon for ALL of us frozen little bunnies. To celebrate the big thaw, Brooklyn Craft Central is pleased and excited to be partnering with Dumbo Improvement District (dumbonyc.org) to hold this year's spring market under the historic cobblestoned DUMBO block called "The Archway", right by the Park and the River. This will be happening Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 11am - 6pm (rain or shine), and is FREE to the public.

Nicknamed 'Shop the Archway', BKCC continues into its third year of the semi-annual series to bring stellar hand-makers together from across the Northeast - from Maine to DC - to show and sell the best of their collections at accessible prices. Curated carefully, BKCC makes sure to represent products that are both high quality, original in their conception AND NOT your old run-of-the-mill street fair fare. Check out our archives page and the wonderful vendors from our last market.

About the organizer: Curated carefully by native New Yorker and Brooklyn indie champion Deb Klein - once part of the long running and splendid Bazaar Bizarre and former owner of the well-loved record shop HI-FI (both in Boston) - Brooklyn Craft Central Markets bring together Klein’s design aesthetic with entrepreneurial smarts to appeal to a wide audience of shoppers. Having founded the BKCC series at the Brooklyn Lyceum in 2008, this is her 8th festival (including the NYC Zine Fest in '09) as organizer and promoter.

About the venue: The Dumbo Improvement District has created a beautiful space that highlights the graceful vaulted ceiling and provides adequate lighting for walking. Benches that incorporate the existing storage brackets and the exposure of the Belgian blocks that form The Archway's base complete Roger Marvel's design that takes a minimalist approach by using existing materials at the site to emphasize the simple beauty of the structure. In addition to the great public space The Archway provides, it is also able to be used for community events. The Archway has been the host site for many events including the Brooklyn Flea, DUMBO Fight Night, the BID's Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration and live viewings of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Read more about it at Dumbonyc.org

About DUMBO: A vibrant and accessible Brooklyn neighborhood with tons of shops, galleries, performing arts institutions, restaurants, bars, chocolatiers, bookshops, and of course the park along the River and the astounding bridges overhead.... and it's all on the F TRAIN at York St, easy access to Brooklyn, Manhattan and beyond. With it's new, improved sprawling Brooklyn Bridge park, DUMBO has become a favorite busy spot for locals as well as a 'must stop' for tourists from around the world, drawing New Yorks AND newcomers here on spring and summer weekends...
