-----------------

Taking a jump back in time, DJ Whistle Punk and Littlefield present a new monthly, full-on hip-shaking SOUL PARTY, following the ever-popular Talent Show. Explore the 60's - before things got really heavy with bouncy breezy girl-groups and all-out soul-screamers. You'll hear well-chosen nuggets and undiscovered treasures with a good dose of fashionable mod and some just-getting-out-of-the-garage greasers. FREE! Come drink, shake, shimmy, shout and shriek your way into the weekend...

About DJ Whistle Punk:

DJ Whistle Punk has spun a circuitous route through music to arrive just off the shores of the Gowanus Canal. Originally from New England, he bagan collecting records as a teenager from Toonerville Trolley in Williamstown, MA and a host of smaller shops he's outlived. Landing in Olympia, WA during the 90s DIY boom, he hosted a dozen radio shows over the course of a dozen years, winning numerous programming awards. Fearlessly broadening the scope of sounds on KAOS FM -- from live musical improv to international music. It was in Oly he began to DJ live, wanting to hear songs to dance to that weren't the same songs one always heard.

Packing up his bags for Europe as Bush II haunted the White House, he found several residencies in Paris, carving out some breathing and dancing space in a sea of electronic house sounds. He hosted a 70s funk night for 5 years and a dance party of "musique populaire," mixing sounds as diverse as klezmer, 50s rock n roll, Swedish indie pop and Balkin music into one rip-roaring party.

Returning to the States to welcome in the Obama era, he hopes to apply a musical knowledge and love of diversity into a new night at Littlefield. Soul Syndicate is a 60s soul night, with some other influences thrown in to give it a kick. A lot of northern soul, a little mod, psych, Jamaican R & B, along with other little surprises. All good dancing tunes that, even if you don't know them yet, are sure to become new favorites.
