Gifford Miller and the Atlantic Yards
I wrote to Gifford Miller about if he had an opinion about the stadium/high rises, ratnerizing of Brooklyn.
His response: (2 months later)
Thank you for contacting Miller for Mayor. We greatly appreciate your input.
Gifford has carefully evaluated the Atlantic Yards proposal and determined
that it is a good deal for New York City. It will create jobs and
affordable housing, while bringing professional sports back to Brooklyn.
In comparison to the ill-conceived West Side stadium, the Atlantic Yards
proposal will cost the City much less, will involve only public
infrastructure investment (rather than arena construction), will go
through a longer and more open RFP process, will be funded through the
regular democratic budget process and not through an off-budget mayoral
slush fund, will have much greater access to public transportation, and
will be accompanied by a substantial quantity of affordable housing,
endorsed by the non-partisan affordable housing proponent ACORN.
Thank you again for contacting our campaign.
Sincerely,
Marshall Miller
