New Yorkers Honor Thousands of Fallen Heroes
In honor of Memorial Day, on Saturday, May 21, Friends of Woodlawn will once again pay tribute to the heroes who served our country with the ceremonial flagging of veterans’ graves. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, cadets, fellow veterans, loved ones, and NYC volunteers will donate their time to place flags at the burial sites of thousands of veterans in Woodlawn’s care. Participants should meet at the Jerome Avenue entrance at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome and encouraged to volunteer.
Cemetery directions: The Woodlawn Cemetery is the last stop on the #4 train. The cemetery is also accessible from the Metro North Railroad Harlem Line (Woodlawn Station). For those traveling by car, Woodlawn can be reached from the E. 233rd St. exit off the Major Deegan (#13) and the Bronx River Parkway (#10).
