Food platter for friend sitting shiva

I would appreciate some input -

I need a recommendation on what to bring to a friend sitting shiva. The family keeps kosher and also has food allergies including some fruit (citrus and kiwi, I think) so a fruit platter is out. Although I think it is most traditional, I would prefer not to bring sweets.

Any advice on what to bring and where to buy?

  • Potato salad or some other sort of salad dish. If you live near a kosher deli you can simply stop in and tell them what you posted here and they will have some suggestions.

There are a few take-out catering places on Kingston Ave in the orthodox-lubavitch section of Crown Heights.

I'd imagine those places would be a safe bet.
