Wilderness First Aid? — Brooklynian

Wilderness First Aid?

My friend is interested in taking a CPR and Wilderness First Aid course in Brooklyn (if possible), but she's having difficulty locating one nearby. She's tried the following links through the American Camping Association with no luck:

* Red Cross

* American Heart Association

* National Safety Council

* Medic First Aid

* American Safety and Health Institute

* National Ski Patrol

* SOLO

* The Mountaineers

* Wilderness Medical Associates

* Wilderness Medical Training Center

* Wilderness Medicine Institute

* Wilderness Medicine Outfitters

* Wilderness Safety Council

EMS also didn't have info about courses nearby, and the ADK doesn't have a course until October. Has anyone taken a course in NYC/nearby or have any advice?

Thanks!

  • I'd try Appalachian Mountain Club, and REI

  • I don't know of any offerings of the Wilderness First Aid classes in Brooklyn -- but CPR and AED training is plentiful through lots of organizations (Red Cross, etc.)

    I have CPR/First Aid and I have Outdoor Camp Training through the Girl Scouts. Once you register as a scout ($12 per years), you can take their trainings. She could call them to see what they offer or if they can help her -- (212) 645-4000

  • Check with NOLS(National Outdoor Leadership School). Even though they're Wyoming based, they keep in contact with their alumni. A nice chunk of them residing in the NYC area. They may be able to throw you a contact concerning the wilderness part.
