The award winning company Feraba offers daily training in tap dance, African dance and West African percussion.
Sessions: July 5-July 22, 2011
from 9-3pm (early drop off 8:15am)
This is a very special camp, your child will be working with professional artists/performers/teachers.
Who we are:
Féraba-A.R.T. is a Brooklyn (Ditmas Park) based multi-ethnic and multi cultural performance group fusing Tap dance with West African dance/music.
All members are professional performers and teachers, well experienced working with students. We are on the roster of Brooklyn Arts Council, Young Audiences NYC, Young Audiences NJ, Ifetayo, Community Works, Artshorizons and many more arts and ed organizations. Camp Location:
Beautiful huge space at the Flatbush Church of the Redeemer (494 East 23rd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11226-7507 at the corner of Foster Ave)
Camp hours:
Monday to Friday: July 5th - July 22nd, 2011
9am to 3pm
Flexible schedule, 1/2 days, 3 days a week or 1/2/3 weeks available. Please call.
Camp Activities:
Daily training in Tap Dance, African Dance and West African drumming -
Performance on the last day of the camp
AGES 8 AND UP
Example Schedule: group A
8-9am: early drop off - game time, stretching and yoga
9-10:15am Tap dance class
10:15-10:30am: bathroom, water break, little snack
10:30-11:45am: djembe drum class: learn rhythms from Guinea, West Africa
lunch
12:45-2pm: African dance class: dances from Guinea, West Africa
2-3pm: mixed class: (stick drumming on doun douns and krins)- learn African songs - play African children games.

Tuition:
$480.- 3 weeks of camp plus free CD: Rhythms from Guinea Vol.1.

We encourage the students to take all the classes: drum and dance but we also offer the possibility to either take the drum camp (4 drum classes a day) or the dance camp (2 African dance classes and 2 Tap dance classes). Please call Irene Koloseus to discuss your needs.
