Battle for Brooklyn--release date?
Hey Brooklynites-I just saw on the news that filmmakers Michael Galinsky and Suki Hawley have been working on their documentary titled, "Battle for Brooklyn" which discusses the development project of the Atlantic Yards. Of course, being a PH resident of 3 years now, this WILL affect me and everyone else in the area. Therefore, I'm super anxious to find out when it will be released. Does anyone know?

It opens this Friday, June 17th at Cinema Village in Manhattan (22 East 12th Street). It's excellent, BTW; even if you're not that engaged in the AY question it's a good human story, and the neighborhood is a main character...

I'm sure the lines will stretch all the way to Times Square and that people will be paying quadruple the face value for scalped tickets. If Karl precedes the screening with a poetry reading, there will be riots of ecstasy.

That sounds fascinating. Ugh! This damn stadium has really destroyed the area and it is nowhere done yet. So frustrated. It is going to be a madhouse with all the traffic it is going to bring, along with other issues as well.
Saw a pretty cool documentary at the Brooklyn Public Library about Red Hook when they built the Ikea there.
Hole in the Wall it was called, I think.
Sorry to hijack the thread, just thought it was kind of on topic.

For the benefit of those who are interested in this film, it is called A Hole in a Fence. I saw it on DVD a few years back; it's worth checking out.

i saw it at ft greene park last thurs. and it was excellent. highly recommended. norman oder, who writes a blog which has thoroughly covered the whole project and attempted to provide some media accuracy, wrote about the documentary recently:

How long is it going to be playing? Will it run into next weekend, or does that depend upon ticket sales?
-
i think the film's future depends on this weekend's tix sales so if possible try to see it this weekend. its gotten very positive reviews overall.

find out all out the film here:
http://battleforbrooklyn.com/please see it this weekend with your friends and family. as others have said, if it does well this weekend, it will get wider release.

It's a very engrossing film, no matter what your level of involvement was or is in Atlantic Yards. It will get national distribution if enough people see it, and it deserves it. As a neighbor mentioned, one paper gave it five stars, and Green Lantern only got two. Even people who supported the project, like Caldwell and Errol Lewis enjoyed it and thought it fair.

Other theater bookers will look at how it does at Cinema Village on opening weekend. So see it today (Sunday at 5, 7, 9:15, if you can). But if you can't it runs through June 24 and will be held over for more weeks at Cinema Village after that.
