Roof decks and roof railings?
Does anyone know a good company that installs those metal roof railings? I think I'd like to have one installed on my roof to keep the neighbors off, and to make the roof safer.
I also wouldn't mind seeing how much it costs to have a professional deck built, as opposed to building mine myself.
Any suggestions for a company than can do one or both of the above?
Thanks!

I don't have any specific recommendations, but there are a lot of metal workers in the area, often kept busy with window bars.
Wood decking will be a completely different story and I believe that you'll have to get a permit (we had to go through this with our back yard - adding a wooden deck was adding square footage, but somehow paving stones was a-okay, no permit necessary).

Thanks! I called Premier Roofing Co Inc, they just install roofs, said I need an iron worker for the railing. I called Sylvio and no one picked up, so I'll try again later.

Depending on where you live, getting permits might be hard. I think it's the DOB that has recently made a major change for decks on the backs of homes. It used to be that the frame had to be metal but the flooring could be wood, then it could be Ipe wood (or metal at any time), now it can't be any wood and has to be "non-combustible" materials which the architects and contractors say means metal or stone.

Sending a PM on the railings.

I would go to an experienced engineer and expeditor.
Jack Gamill is located on court street and is very good.

There are a bunch of issues about roof decks. Load and drainage just to name a couple. Handrails..that is a red flag for an unremitted deck so be careful before installing them w or city approval. The city is getting calls about all kinds of roof issues as the green roof gardening craze is on high. Soil water and extensive plants can only be installed on very few roofs without some redesign of the roof material and reenforcement.
Calling the numbers people have given you here is a good start. Whatever you do make a couple of good choices, buy a good fire extinguisher that has enough capacity for a medium fire and make sure it is rated for all 3 classes of fire. Also put a five gallon bucket of water on the roof for safety in case you need to quench a BBQ or cigarette/joint somebody drops by accident.Make sure the hardware on the doors works well and you can't lock yourself on the roof.Make sure you and anybody you invite to enjoy your outdoor space can easily get down the ladder or stairs if needed. Biggest hit about roof decks is BBQ's, once they see one you are getting a ticket. Given the current climate it will probably come sooner rather than later

When we went through our renovation about 4 years ago we were going to use Urban Exteriors (http://www.panix.com/~brooklyn/). I forget the man I spoke to but I do remember that he was very reasonable and was quick to show his work and give names for recommendations. Unfortunately we ran out of cash and put it on hold so I can't comment on the final product. Good luck
