monopolies are awesome.

Been there.

Box keeps malfunctioning. Can't even get through 30m without picture freezing and box freezing up so it can be turned on or off without rebooting. So now I must walk to 25th Street to get a new box b/c TWC can't give me a service call until Friday. Then they have the nerve to call me tonight to offer me a service upgrade. Needless to say, I just laughed at the salesperson. Just laughed.
Can't wait for FIOS. Can't wait.

F** Time Warner.
I just got on verizon, tech comes in on Thursday.
BooooYEAHAHA!!! I'll let you know how it works out, but I'm pretty sure it will be more reliable and fast then the sh*t I've been dealing with TW for the past years.
-
I also hate Time Warner.
Their infrastructure in Brooklyn is decades behind Manhattan.
I always recommend verizon, Yeah Mamacita, or sat. dish.
Either direct tv or dish network. -
I dunno if it's the same for you, but my TWC internet is spotty and sloooooooow. I don't have cable, so I cannot compare. I called over the weekend and there was an outage. Now there are none reported, but it's still not working right.
Down south of the slope.
-
If cable television is making you unhappy, maybe you should get rid of it.
It's summertime in the one of most vibrant cities in the world - go outside and do something.
-
I don't have cable, I think it's a waste of money. I rather go cheap and get netflix, plus they have tons of 'watch instantly' movies and sitcoms.
Verizon came in and did the installation, but the modem and router is a day late (UPS) so fingers crossed we receive it today and can get it all set up, and then I can cancel my TW account.

Yep. also south slope/GWH.
Internet went out Tuesday night around 10-ish. I didn't want to deal with it. It was still out Wednesday after work so I called. I was told there was a service outage in the area, a service tech had been dispacthed, and it would be back on soon.
Still out Thursday after work, so I call again. The first rep tells me there is a service outage and I said, "If there is a service outage in this area for almost 24 hours that you can't seem to fix, this is really not a service I am willing to pay for anymore." Then I ask for a manager.
The next rep comes on and says "There actually is no service outage in your area. The rep that told you that needs to be retrained." (seriously)
We go throught the whole dance of unplugging and reconnecting the modem - which never solves a thing - so he tells me I have to schedule a service appointment. Then I give the guy a very big earful about the fact that I have some sort of service problem at least every three to four months, I pay TWC a lot of money, and that I think I've reached the last straw with them.
Anyone have any suggestions for an alternate service?
-
Ace has been good for me.
-
Lemur, I had your same experiences and some even worse. They would cancel my service appts without notification, not let me even talk to a supervisor, constant intermittent internet, hours wasted on the phone being transferred around. Faulty modems that were replaced a record 3 times in one year.
When I called to cancel they offered me $10 off my monthly bill. Maybe that might make your plight more bearable? Call and select service cancellation a rep will try and offer you a deal. Take it and keep your eyes open for something better. I switched (verizon as I mentioned above) and so far so good, but I'll give ya'll a full report after a few more months on it.

saw this thread a while back and smirked. now my cable box is dead. hubris. fk tw.
-
My favorite Time Warner Fuck Up story (and there are many to choose from) was when the season finale of Fringe was on and TW decided to remotely reboot it's system.
I had DirecTV for ten years and just moved to a building that ONLY has TWC. I have to say DirecTV was light years ahead in just about every aspect.
Fuck Time Warner!
-
Largely b/c Directv actually has to compete for your business, so they care about things like customer experience and product quality.
TWC sh-ts in your mouth and then makes you pay for it.
-
it is the swearing thread!
-
Yep, I have never disagreed with this sentiment.
2 weeks ago our on demand channels stopped working (this is how I watch many shows since our DVR isn't reliable). They get a tech out here (over a week later, grr) and he quickly fixes the problem. Today, a few days after the tech was here, on demand stopped working again. Now I get to wait another week for another tech.
Seriously considering Direct TV now for cable.
-
don't get direct tv!! every time there is a large storm damn thing doesn't show any shows. i'm just too lazy to get rid of it. i should just go and get fios. it is available for me right now.
-
I've had directv for about 8 years now and the only time I've had a problem was in my last apt where the installer did a bad job and I never got it fixed.
Otherwise it works literally 99% of the time. Once or twice a year it blips for a few minutes during an especially violent rainstorm, but otherwise is fine.
User experience and care for the customer have to be balanced against your cable blipping a few minutes each year.
-
Never had a problem with DirecTV during a storm.
-
in fact i couldn't watch tv cuase of the damn storm!!! They never seem to fix the problem lol i stop calling them to come and fix it.
-
Okay, so nobody showed up for my TWC appointment today. It's my understanding that one of two things should happen: either they give me one month's credit or they get fined. I'm not sure which if either of those is actually true.
Any advice on making either happen?
-
I think you need to have your service fully back up and running before they can issue any credit. But when you do call make sure you get your "starr jones" bitch-on and ask for a supervisor. A service rep will only credit you for days without service, a supervisor might give you more.
-
For those wondering, if a tech does not show up during the window, you can get a credit to your account for one month of the service that was not working. I think it's called the "on time guarantee".
Okay, so I'm still waiting to hear from dispatch on when a tech will get here but I was told to call back after it's working for both a credit for the time it wasn't working (getting 2 weeks) and for a month of service (only cable since that's what was not working) credit applied to my account. The phone rep said, "oh, so you're aware of our on time guarantee". He seemed like they are sad to hear when people know of this but read back to me his supposed notes on my account and said I should not get any hassle over getting it.
Now for them to just get a tech here...
-
1.5 hours and several phone calls later. "there is no tech to get to your call tonight. We can reschedule for next Thursday, Friday or Saturday (as in more than a week for now, for a problem I've been trying to get them to fix since July 1).
-
And also, a rage-filled fuck you to TWC from me as well. A one month credit and partial credit for the missed service are not near enough to make me not totally pissed about waiting for a tech on 3 different days!!
-
As soon as I can make a clean break from my cable provider I shall be switching over to FIOS. I hear wonderful things about the speeds.
-
Yeah so, no one showed up for my service appointment on Saturday, either. The dispatcher said someone would be out Sunday (remember how beautiful it was this weekend?) and my response was that he "must be f#*king crazy if he thought I was going to sit around and wait another day for time warner to show up"
I then spoke with a rep about the on-time guarantee and he said it was only for installations. I said No and continued to argue with him. He eventually put me on hold, then came back and said "you were right. it is a good thing you pushed"..... love their customer service!
Sunday I went out and signed up for internet service with Clear. I'll cancel my cable the day Fios is available.
-
I demanded an appointment of my choosing (and got it) but before the slot came, I think they tried some more remote trouble-shooting as my box rebooted and was displaying different than normal info while doing this, several times yesterday and my problem was fixed and I didn't have to wait for a tech.
Howdy, Stranger!
