STAPLES Gottcha - Fax 14 pages for $16.97

Me: What does it cost to Fax 13 pages?

Staples: I'll know when we get the confirmation.

Me: OK, fax these.

The confirmation: First page In-state-FAX @ $1.49, 12 pages In-state-FAX @ $1.29 = $16.97.

  • At the copy shop on 7th ave near 9th st I believe they charge $2 per page.

Also, your response shouldn't have been "Ok, fax these." you couldve asked "will it be closer to 50 cents per page or 3 dollars per page?" Surely the manager could've answered your question.

  • Good point Snarkslope (love the name).. If you don't ask for total the price before you purchase whatever it is hard to bitch after the fact.

  • I have used this a couple of times

  • OK, you are all right.

I happen to like Staples and I appreciate their convenience and reasonable prices. I am just disappointed that my Staples thinks I am stupid enough to accept these absurd rates.

$1.49 for the first page may be justified to cover the clerk's time loading the faxes and entering the number, but the 12 additional sheets at 86% of the first is insulting. They are probably using their Internet connection, which does not increase their incremental cost.

An opportunity to solidify a customer relationship is changed into one of alienation and suspicion.

They spend on their advertising and when they get a customer in the door their marketing MBA's blow it.

The important sale is the second sale!

  • I agree that you've got no one but yourself to blame for not getting a more accurate quote ahead of time, but you're also 100% correct that it's a bad job on Staples' part. You'd think they'd use services like faxing as a loss leader - up to fifty pages for $2.00 or something like that, just to get people in the store.

  • If you're ever in Crown Heights my office is on St. Johns and Troy. I would have done it for $5

  • I'm glad I checked out this board today... My daily routine doesn't have nearly enough of people whining about stupid shit.

Also, who faxes things anymore? I absolutely refuse to fax anything - no exceptions.
