Cheryl's Global Soul — Brooklynian

Cheryl's Global Soul

According to an article in yesterday's Daily News, Cheryl of Cheryl's Global Soul Restaurant is looking to expand to Crown Heights. I'll wager Franklin Ave will have a new addition to its' growing restaurant scene. She is looking at retail locations now, exact area was not mentioned.

  • Assuming the present owner of Bristens-Island Thyme (um, burgers? um, Dumplings? um, Carib?) is not going to try to repeat the process again, that location seems a logical choice.

Cheryl's is quite nice. Given the avenue's present offerings, it would offer nicest sit down dining available.

    Order the porkchop.

  • I LOVE Chery's and I hope her expansion is successful and on located on Franklin ave. We need more weekend breakfast/brunch spots on Franklin.

  • Her soy-glazed salmon is a freaking beautiful thing.

  • Every time we go for brunch I'm sooo tempted to start eating fish again simply because the salmon hash (with perfectly done eggs) is AMAZING. One of the best things I've eaten.

Also, my guess (if it's going to be on Franklin) would be either to take over Bristens, move into that building on Franklin and Sterling that seems to have been for rent for at least 5 years now (south west corner) that seems really big, or maybe they're the new place moving in next to 3D's?

  • I recently talked with one of the guys who owns the building on Bergen (?) just west of Franklin that was formerly occupied by Homage and the "Islamic Clothing" shop. Both were closed by a fire a few years ago.

Anyway, the owners finally got the insurance $ they were owed from the fire, and are currently doing renovations to get the ground floor shops and the apartments above, back open again.

If Cheryl combined the two spaces, we could get a big restaurant that had ample indoor space as well as outdoor dining in the back yard, and on the sidewalk out front .

  • Homage and the clothing place were on Park, not Bergen. But OH MAN! I hope something opens there again! I miss Homage so much...

  • There is also the site on Classon and Eastern Parkway that is presently being renovated after years of being vacant.

The space has a high ceiling and nice big windows are presently being installed. If kept whole, the space would be big enough for a big restaurant or something like a Duane Reade.

  • LOVE Cheryl's. Hate Bristen's/Island/whatever.

    Here's to hoping...
