Earn Good Karma - Volunteer!!
Hello,
I am trying to organize an awareness event for Right Rides. I am looking for volunteers to hand out flyers in Park Slope on Saturday July 08, for about 2-3 hours. Please let me know if you would be available to help out for a good cause. You can generate some good karma for yourself. God knows we need all the help we can get!!
Right Rides will provide tape, posters/flyers and dispatch cards. All we need to do is hand out poster/flyer in high traffic areas. That's pretty much it
At this point I am trying to just get a head count. Please let me know if you are available on Saturday July 08 from 11 AM – 2 PM and if you would like to volunteer. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to a friend who may be interested.
Thank you.

I'm interested but have a question. I understand they take certain measures to protect the passengers, but how do they insure the safety of the volunteers. For example, how do they know if the pick-up is legitimate. After all, it seems like anyone could call for a pick-up be they legit or intending harm.

First, thank you for your interest.
The following is a message from Oraia Reid - co-founder, Executive Director:
"Because RightRides mainly serves lower-income, minority neighborhoods and/or areas with limited public transportation, we feel that those who call us for a free ride home qualify as “in needâ€Â. Also, we’ve driven over 200 riders home and 95% of these are first time riders, so we can tell that the service is only called upon when it is most needed and isn’t being abused.
We don’t accept any cash in the car, not even tips. There really isn’t much risk for volunteers operating the service as there really isn’t anything to take advantage of. We do offer de-escalation and conflict management training for our volunteers in the unlikely event of a conflict. We make sure one member of the driving teams is female for the comfort of our riders plus we conduct criminal background checks on volunteers as additional protection for both riders and volunteers."
Lastly, please note I (Deepty) am not directly involved with RightRides. I believe that this is a good cause and am doing what I can to spread the word. If you have any further questions about RightRides, please feel free to contact them directly. Thank you.
