Awesome STOOP sale between 4th 5th aves on 8th street.. — Brooklynian

Awesome STOOP sale between 4th 5th aves on 8th street..

I would like to thank Phillis for the awesome stoop sale she held earlier this morning. I could not believe the bargains that were to be had. Phillis, if and when you hold another stoop sale please post it here. That antique mixer works like a charm. My grandson will enjoy the 70's toys. I hate to say it but that boxed 70's "Bullet-Man" action figure was the best acquisition for me. Thank you again.

A question for the forum:

Where do I find a listing of future "STOOP" sales in the neighborhood if such a listing exists at all? Besides the occasional lamp post notice, I want to know if there is a neighborhood directory of sorts that actually has future sales listed?

Thank you.

  • and I would like to ask the mods if we can close this thread right now.

  • Veets: Why? I mean, I haven't posted in a long time (I lurk way more than I post), but it seems to me threads have been being closed recently at a rate much more than they used to be, and you in particular seem to follow AmishPride around, asking mods to close his/her threads. Any reason? In this case, while the first portion of his/her post was certainly out of place on a community message board, the second part certainly was not, especially for someone who has only joined the board in the past month. I realize you've been posting here for quite a while, but the attitude of 'I don't like this post, let's get the mods to close it' is neither welcoming, nor ingratiating to new users. A better suggestion would be that if you don't like a thread, either post constructive criticism or ignore the thread. The mods will close threads as they see fit.

Amish - I think what Veets may mean to say is to maybe try to keep your posts relevant to a community message board. In other words, while you may love certain items you bought at a stoop sale, that's really not going to be information people will generally care about. As for listings, there is a tab next to the search bar that literally says "Listings." People holding stoop sales will often post their information there. Welcome to the board.

  • Gadmo.. Thanks for telling AmishPride what I meant to say.

I am sorry but I remember when if I came to Brooklynian to read and post once a day there were 10 or 15 threads that were interesting, not the work of bots or people who wanted to stir things up.

Apology to Amish (who says he is a writer) but amazing to think that this post is other than tongue in cheek! And taken like that.. yeah might be amusing but I am looking at the broader picture. I care about this site and for reasons I can't explain it has moved away from posts with substance. I was not making a comment based on my "non-nterest" in reading a specific post whether it was placed in the proper section or not.

I can appreciate your (Gadmo's) welcome tone to new comers but I re-read that OP comment a few times and still came up with.. You gotta be kidding!!

Just my opinion... that I have no need to inflict on someone else.

  • I will say this, Veets - I share your nostalgia/affinity for the site that was... It seems to me also that the board was more active and more interesting just a few years ago. Not that it's bad now - it just seems like it has slowed down.

I completely agree. ...Brooklynian is fading away.

I think a lot of the sites that are user driven are being killed off by sites that generate content and then simply allow comments.

Needless to say, Facebook has had a big impact as well.

  • Thank you, Gadmo. I see that this forum too suffers from the occasional long term posters who have nothing better to do than play god on a forum. Why is this "VEETS" person so against my thread? Who is this person to try and force his/her belief system on others? I merely asked a question and this person deems it upon themselves to ask for the closure of my thread. Might I suggest that this person ignore my question if it offends his/her eyes or better yet perhaps this person should try stepping away from the computer and leaving their home. There is a life outside of this forum , Veets.

Once more I apologize to Gadmo for my outburst but internet bullies like Veets really make me angry.

Thanks for the information, Gadmo. Since I have received what i was looking for now is an appropriate time to close the thread if need be but not because the self appointed mayor of Brookynian(Veets) deemed it so.

A life is a terrible thing to waste so please do us all a favor and enjoy this wonderful weather and dare to leave your lair.

  • Amish-

Have you not heard of the iphone, or ipad?

They allow us to enjoy the weather, and simultaneously laugh at people who believe they are being bullied and may be best served by the going to the "garage sales" section of Craigslist.

...they are already well represented on the Rants and Rave section.

  • Good for you. To each his own.

  • I was just trying to help. They have a lot of good stoop sales on craigslist, and a lot more users.

  • Since the OP got his/her info I think it's ok to veer off topic here.

In my opinion the physical layout/operation of this site has gotten worse, not better, over the years. It's harder to use now, and that's one reason why I personally come here less often and read fewer threads. Maybe others have the same experience.

  • I've been saying that this board has been sucking for years.

  • The phrase "death rattle" comes to mind....

  • I realize it would be inappropriate to tell you all to go fuck yourselves.. so I won't say that.

  • Aaaaaaand on that note. As George Burns would say, 'Goodnight Gracie." :salut:
