Zito's Shout-Out

I finally got to try the new sandwich shop, Zito's, on 7th Ave between 7th and 8th streets. What a great addition to the neighborhood! They've created a fantastic space with delicious food.

I had the chicken parm sandwich and a rice ball. Both were excellent. I also loved their drink selection... Boylon's sodas with cane sugar!

I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of their menu.

  • Just be careful you order the right sandwich. Their paper menu has a major design flaw and my first (and only) experience with them was ordering the wrong number. Since I don't eat pork, it was a waste of a sandwich (wanted the beef).

Typically menus are Item number and title on the first line, item description and then finally the price. They have item number and price on one line and then the description. The number/price line floats between two descriptions. If you were less then careful you might think the number/price line was associated with the description above and not below (after all, aren't we expecting the price to be after the description?).

Sorry to nitpick. I'm just putting this out there. Can't wait to try the beef.

  • I had their roast beef with muzz and I have to tell you, everything from the meat to the bread was pretty bland. And their eggplant caponata had way too much cheap vinegar. I'll still go there.I'd like to see if the rest of their menu is better, but it was a lousy first impression.

  • Yeah, their roast beef is NOT the thing to have there! go for the more italian style sandwiches. The potato and egg and eggplant parm are excellent! We tried the roast beef on our first visit and was not impressed at all. But, the potato and egg, the eggplant parm, the autogrille and the trunzo are all VERY good.

The chicken parm is fine, nothing special. It's good, just doesn't make you want to go back for it again. But, we love the other stuff!

The arancini is good also. never tried the eggplant caponata..
