Coney Island History Project Walking Tours - Fall Series — Brooklynian

Coney Island History Project Walking Tours - Fall Series

Sunday's forecast is sunny! Join Charles Denson, historian and author of "Coney Island: Lost and Found" on Sunday, Oct 2, for a Walking Tour of the historic landmarks and attractions --past, present and future--of Coney Island.

The Coney Island History Project's Fall Tours are offered on Sundays at 2:00 pm by advance reservation only. Tour guides are Charles Denson or Amanda Deutch. Please visit our online reservation site for additional info and to reserve and purchase tickets for Sunday tours through October 30.

Our tours are based on History Project Director Charles Denson's award-winning book "Coney Island: Lost and Found," the interviews in our Oral History Archive and other primary sources. All tours will begin with a private visit to the History Project's new exhibition center under the Wonder Wheel's iconic entrance sign on Denos D. Vourderis Place (West 12th Street), just a few steps off the Boardwalk. The exhibit center is open to the public weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day and throughout the year to groups by appointment.

The 1-1/2 hour tours also include a talk on the History Project's Dreamland Fire Centennial exhibit. The walking tour ends near the landmark Childs Restaurant Building on the Boardwalk. The tour will cover Coney Island's official landmarks--the Parachute Jump, Cyclone, Wonder Wheel, both Childs Buildings and Shore Theater--as well as Nathan's, Ruby's, Paul's, the Astrotower, and other historic attractions.

Tours are approximately one mile in length and wheelchair accessible. Tickets are $20. For info and advance purchase of tickets, please visit our event reservation website. Individuals and groups interested in scheduling a private tour may email [email protected].
