How to become the 77th pct Officer of the Month

  • From the article:

Camancho was on patrol at the intersection of Lincoln Place and Schenectady Avenue when he saw a teen engaged in a minor offense. As he got out of his patrol car to talk to him, the guy took off, throwing drugs away as he ran, said Deputy Inspector Elvio Capocci.

    ...

After "a chase, a fight and a struggle," Camancho manages to get a hold of the teen’s gun.

"No injuries, no shots fired, a gun recovered, drugs recovered (and a) pretty extensive criminal record on the perpetrator, so it was a nice arrest,” said Capocci.

  • March's Awardee:

Patch wrote: When Officer Donald Goldstein was sent to check out a report that someone had shot at a doorway in Albany Houses early last month, he could have just written it up and left.

But instead he stayed and asked questions. An investigation and five search warrants later, Goldstein and his team had arrested 12 people, confiscated illegal drugs including crack and ecstasy and took off the streets four illegal guns.

“These guys took the extra step, asking questions and staying there,” said Deputy Inspector Elvio Capocci, at the 77th Precinct Community Council meeting on April 9. “He did a great job, making the community safer.”

For going the extra mile, Goldstein was awarded the Officer of the Month award.

“Getting the recognition is good. It makes you feel good,” said Goldstein who is 35 and an eight-year veteran of the NYPD.

Congratulations on a job well done.
