An introduction....

I'm finally here! (and parked the car with NO trouble, I sincerely thank everyone who responded to that thread because I would have been paying out the arse if it wernt for the advice...)
So i've been in Park Slope for 2 days, so far I've been to the Tea Lounge, The Gate (methinks?) and generally just wandering around since I have no friends, little money and no job. Any suggestions about what wonderful things there is to do around here? I'm totally new to NYC and havnt really caught grasp of the whole subway thing quite yet aside from getting from one pre-mapped place to another, so i'm trying to lay low around the hood until I make some friends...

anyone? Help me entertain myself!

re: learning the subway - you're doing the right thing. just wander. get on, get off, wander around. it will all start to make sense.

Exactly! But please, until you're feeling comfortable, do yourself a favor and go buy the credit card-sized subway maps! To clarify - NOT the ones that fold down to the size of a credit card, but the double-sided, non-folding ones!

spanks guys I've been using hopstop.com to get around- it seems pretty decent

quick q: I'm meeting someone at the flatbush ave station later tonight, I can take the B or the Q there right? It looks like only 2 or 3 stops from the 7th/flatbush station heading towards midtown...?
or I could be confused

:? On the B & Q, there are only 2 stops between 7th Ave and Manhattan - Atlantic and Dekalb, both of which are on Flatbush...

Check out the botanical gardens. There is a free day - I think it's Wed. Depending on where you live and how flipping hot it is out, you can walk there.

Good job riding the subway. Just don't stop and read your map whilst on the subway stairs blocking traffic, or you'll piss a lot of people off.

Oh, and check out the Celebrate Brooklyn concerts in Prospect Park (just Google it) for some great free shows (Ok, there is a suggested $3 donation for most shows, but if you're really broke........).

Tuesdays and Saturday before noon. It's always nice to start Saturday with the farmer's market and a stroll through the botanic garden.
