Brooklyn 11223 is Bay Ridge's Answer to Jersey Shore
Paging Tony Manero... Bay Ridge now has its own version of Jersey Shore:
A once tightknit group of girls from the Brooklyn ’hood are still at each other’s throats over an alleged heinous act of betrayal years ago — and their long-simmering beef has spurred a new documentary TV series called “Brooklyn 11223.”Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/brooklyn/it_klyn_shore_AbtrBI1OwJRVqTD7NBTgpO#ixzz1n30FWlnaThe show, which begins airing on the Oxygen network March 26, features such residents as Christie Maria Livoti, for whom there is no greater sin than seducing someone’s boyfriend and lying about it.
The object of scorn for Livoti and about a dozen of her closest friends is Joey Lynn Tekulve, 24, a pal since kindergarten at PS 215 in Gravesend. Their friendship abruptly ended after Tekulve allegedly seduced Livoti’s then-boyfriend about three years ago.

In October, word spread through Bay Ridge that a reality show for the Oxygen network was filming around town. Locals were livid. Sixty-three percent of respondents to a poll in the local newspaper answered, "Bay Ridge is not the Jersey Shore!" (The show agrees; it's tagline: "This ain't Jersey. It's Brooklyn.") Friends from the neighborhood approached me vis-à-vis my capacity as a journalist. "You need to do something about this," wrote one in an email. "They’re not even from Bay Ridge."
Brighton Beach residents went through a similar headache last summer, when Oxygen's competitor Lifetime aired Russian Dolls, a reality show about Russian immigrants in that part of Brooklyn. "The Russian community look like idiots," one resident told the Times then. "Why don’t they show doctors, lawyers, the Russian intelligentsia?”

I just recently heard about this. How upsetting it is as a life long bay ridge resident to see these clowns come and film on our streets and in our businesses. Trash, trash, trash. Do these kids have parents? As a parent I would never allow my child to put their own reputation and their family's reputation on the line and be on a reality tv show. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some reality shows out there that are worthy of respect, this show however is clearly not one of them. These kids proved their classlessness and immaturity in response to the other comments on this page. I just hope it's known that this is not an accurate reflection of our neighborhood. ...

Brooklyn Councilman to the Oxygen Network: ‘Take This Show Off the Air!’
Bay Ridge Councilman Vinnie Gentile is calling for the Oxygen network to take off the air a new program called, “Brooklyn 11223,” a show that has been called “as trashy as “Jersey Shore.”
“There is no redeeming social value or positive takeaway from the perpetuation of these trashy and classless stereotypes that serve only to degrade, denigrate and objectify women and Italian-Americans.”
“This is not what Bay Ridge is about and this not what Bay Ridge wants or needs. We refuse to stand by and let ‘Hollywood’ portray the smart, hardworking, proud, cultured, creative and compassionate residents of Bay Ridge in this light.”
