S Clubs closing? - via F-ed in Park Slope...
Can't say we didn't all see this coming...
As a member of S CLUBS, the bizarro basement gym located on the corner of Union and 7th Aves, I've always wondered about two things:1. Why is it called "S Clubs" when there is only one of them?
2. How in the hayl does this place stay open when no one's ever in the joint?
Looks like we all might be getting our answer to No. 2 today: they're not...staying open that it is.
Last night we heard from two different tipsters, both with the same story: S Clubs is shuttin er down today for good.

and the old thread (which is now closed)

A strong contender for "Weirdest thread ever" on Brooklynian.

That was a weird thread.
It would suck if this place does really shut today. As I posted in the werid thread, I never had any issue with the place and for my purposes it was perfect.

I'm disgusted with the way that S Clubs' management and landlord treated its community. No one, from what I've experienced and been told, knew the gym was closing until 24 hours before the padlocks were thrown on. The staff and loyal members who have been going there for several years deserve at least a month's notice. When thinking of the people who quickly pulled the trigger without any warning, the only word that comes to mind is "SCUMBAGS." People who treat the community that way don't deserve our business.

Sucks. Just means that more people are going to join the Crunch on Flatbush. That location already seems over capacity most of the time I'm there.

Actually that (a sudden closing) happened to a gym I belong to about 4-5 years ago. Turns out the owner/manager had been skimmning from all sorts of accounts. He was caught for non-payment of taxes. The closing (by NYS revenue or IRS, don't remember which) was sudden to prevent him from taking the equipment which was siezed & eventually sold in lieu of what was owed.
