Transitioning to a Low-Carbon Future
Sunday Platform: Transitioning to a Low-Carbon Future
With Rebecca Lurie and the South Brooklyn Transitioning Group
As humanity faces the challenges of climate change, peak oil and economic upheaval, solutions will require strategies of local resilience. "Transition" is a movement that began in England in 2006 to address these challenges and support transformation at a local, even neighborhood level. Today over 400 Transition Initiatives around the world are preparing for future shocks and shifts by unleashing creativity and re-skilling themselves while building community and having fun. Members of the newly formed Brooklyn Transition Initiating Group will introduce us to this idea.
