this crash will affect us all.....

Assuming we can't grow or tax our way out of this mess, hopefully our leaders will have the skills to we implement austerity slowly, so we avoid Europe's increasing social unrest.

  • I guess I am of little faith. Our leaders have gone down the rabbit hole of tax-spend for more years than I can remember. Anytime a "social" program is put on the chopping block you hear the howls. Do you honestly believe that any one of these characters - from politicians to program administrators (read cronies) to labor union leaders are really willing to forego and tighten their belts?

You can't cut off a junkie's heroin supply without some serious withdrawal. You are proposing methadone. Just staves off the inevitable.

  • I think we would need the equivalent of Germany to force us to implement austerity quickly.

At present, I do not see a country capable of putting the US under such duress. The world financial market conceivably could do it...

such a move would present huge gains to whatever country is deemed to be "doing it right".
