Brooklyn NY: Irondale presents esteemed, award-winning Russian children’s choir Apelsinchik. Great music about love, from any country, takes our breath away. It is enchanting and poetic. The singing of Apelsinchik is a combination of skill of the highest quality, sincerity, charm and awaking femininity. Apelsinchik is translated as "baby orange". In Russia the smell of oranges means the New Year is coming. It is the fragrance of happiness and miracles. The fragrance of dreams.
Apelsinchik is a professional children’s group founded in 1988 by Svetlana Dik (Artistic Director) and Vladimir Dik (Managing Director). A rigorously trained group, they perform a diverse selection of music including the music of the Renaissance, modern, classical, folk and Russian classical.
At that time of its inception, Apelsinchik offered a new approach to music education for children in Russia, focusing strongly on creativity, adding to the tradition of self –discipline and the development of skills. The freedom of communication between the teacher and the young musicians allows for conversations about music and create a unique atmosphere. This freedom, combined with demanding training, achieves outstanding results allowing the children to excel and enjoy being part of the choir.
Over the past 23 years, Apelsinchik has been awarded numerous awards at prestigious competitions, such as:
-The Grand Prix of Russia's National musical competition "Zolotoi Petushok" (1995),
-Gold Diploma of III International Robert Shuman Competition in Zwickau (Germany) (1998),
-The Second Prize of International Competition "Canzone Magica" in Rimini (Italy) (2002),
-The Grand Prix of VI Competition-Festival "Prazski Zvezdopad" in Karlovy Vary (Chech Republic) (2007),
-The Silver Medal of VI World Choir Games in Shaoxing (China) (2010), ets.
The ensemble has toured the world several times - USA (16 concerts in different cities in 1992), Japan (in 1996) and Italy (in 2011). In July, 2012 "Apelsinchik" (for now its senior group consists of ten girls, 12-14 years old) will take part in VII World Choir Games in Cincinnati.
