Real Estate Broker recommendation

Can anyone recommend a non-shady real estate broker in the area? It' for a friend I know looking for to spend $1200 or less for an apartment rental in the hood. Holler back!!

Erica Sullivan is great. Worked with us on and off for almost two years before we finally girded our loins to buy a house. She went above and beyond for us, often doing her job, the seller's agent's job, various attorneys' jobs, basically anyone that wasn't moving fast enough for her; she's tireless. We all play a role in changing our neighborhood, yet many of us convince ourselves that our impact is somehow "mostly good", and simultaneously identify another person's impact as "mostly bad".

Clayfilm's friend doesn't seem to have a lot of money. If they would like to live in CH west of -say- Nostrand, they are not going to have a lot of options for $1200. S/he will need a strong, aggressive, motivated real estate agent in order to get the place they want.

Like most big decisions, choosing a real estate agent and deciding on a place is a fraught process:

First, we all should admit that no matter where we live, we do so because we outbid and out-maneuvered someone who was poorer and/or less savvy. ...perhaps even more "in need", or more "deserving".

Then, we should decide whether we have the luxury of imposing a different (be it higher or lower) moral standard on ourselves than that codified in law.

On a budget like that, why would you use a broker? The standard brokers fee is 15% of a years rent. So you you'd actually be paying $1400 for an apartment per month.

Not true, I found a great rent stabilized one bedroom that allows cats and dogs on Bedford Ave for $1025 a month. Forget brokers, they're going to laugh at you but a lot of them are greedy idiots. Craigslist is the way to go, just tell your friend to check it constantly.
