God damn it, I broke my own rules on panhandling the other day. — Brooklynian

God damn it, I broke my own rules on panhandling the other day.

I used to give when I was dirt poor and younger. but when I grew older I realize most of these guys don't need the money.

So other day a young man come up to me and ask for a dollar, he said he was a dollar short to ride the subway home. He points towards the subway. he didn't hangout at the subway or the area. I thought he could be the real deal of some kid lost and need money.

So after I gave him some money, he went to the next guy etc... got more than a few bucks. At that point i'm like god damn it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So instead of walking towards the subway he went the other way and kept on saying he a dollar short to get home on the subway.

Me = sucker.

I was the first sucker he approached, if i wasn't I would of thought scam!!! cause if i saw how he gotten more than a few bucks by then.

    My brother had the best approach. Whenever he was approached by a beggar with some hard luck story, he would state "you can spend this money on that if you like, but what I would do is use it toward getting really high."

    They would then usually give him a high five, and state "that's exactly what I am going to do", and -regardless- he would feel his $1 was well spent.

    ....he created a win-win for everyone.

    I, however, am too cheap.
