Gun rights in NYC, it should be either everyone could get it

or no body could. including cops and politicians. It's the only fair way. Right now we have a system where only the rich and politicians can have it.

this makes me sick politicians like Schmuck Schumer who says we shouldn't have it. Yet he himself has a CCW for NYC and armed guards to boot.

Schumer himself is reported to possess a New York concealed handgun permit, and both U.S. Senators regularly employed armed guards for their personal protection.

Just because a politician recognizes that being armed makes THEM safer, doesn’t mean they support YOUR right to keep and bear arms. They think they’re different than you and me, that because of their title they’re entitled to MORE rights than we are.

An elevator operator at Trump Tower claims a billionaire office tenant threatened him with a revolver after the employee refused to wait around to take him down to the lobby.

Stewart Rahr, who sold his drugstore-distribution company for $1.3 billion in 2010, told The Post he was with Sen. Charles Schumer outside the mogul’s 24th-floor headquarters on Nov. 1 when “I told the guy, ‘I’m in a hurry. I’ll be back in 30 seconds.’ ”

But the elevator man already had a passenger and shut the door.

Rahr, a pal of Donald Trump and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, said he later tracked down the employee and chewed him out.

The worker, Rahr said, accused him of going ballistic and drawing his revolver.

Used to be a huge gun store out on Long Island. Their two bumper stickers read..."if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" and "make love not war, be prepared for both". Words to live by but if everyone had guns there would be more Trayvon Martins and New York City would become Dodge City. It's possible for anyone to get a gun if they have a need for it (such as stores that have large amounts of cash) and they're willing to wait the year or so it takes to become a legal pistol owner. In any event, anyone can get a rifle.

are you saying you are favoring the elite system of gun ownership, as long as your a political powerful person or a rich guy sure you can own one.

yet they are the least to be affected by violence and robbery etc..

The ones who need it the most it's almost impossible for them to get.

I've been held up at gunpoint in my office and I still don't think I need a gun. What constitutes "need?" Is is FEAR or actual circumstances. If it's fear then there are going to be a lot of senseless killings and more violence than we have now. If it's actual circumstances then you can get a gun, it just takes quite a long time to get the permit....in New York anyway. In most other states it's a lot less time but I don't think their crime stats are better than New York's. Since you say it's only the rich and the politically powerful that can get guns I'm guessing you have little faith in the poor and middle class and think many of us are criminals.

no where did i say other than rich people are criminals. i said you implied only those rich and political powerful deserves guns rights. while the regular people can't even get it if they want to get it.

what I am saying is the current system is not fair to the regular people. either there should be no guns for the elites too or everyone could have one. that would be fair.

from what i gather is you believe that regular people shouldn't have guns. so therefore nobody should. that is my logic to the gun debate. either or no excuses for the rich.

I think that TV, video games and movies give people an unrealistic expectation of their ability to respond effectively to a dangerous situation. Many professional peace officers, who train and retrain all the time, are killed and injured because they were unable to respond effectively: maybe they were taken by surprise or were shot in the back. I know that if I were confronted with an armed assailant, I would be more likely to crap my pants than do anything else, just think that Glock I had in my nightstand is now in the possession of the a-hole who broke into my apartment.

I am not convinced that arming the population is likely to make us any safer. I agree with AW though, a handgun license should not be the sole preserve of the rich and powerful, that's why American Express issues Centurion cards. I would be happier with the concealed carry laws if licensee's were required to put in a minimum number of training hours per month.

I know quite a few "regular" people who have pistol permits. They don't have carry rights but they do have the right to keep one in their home although I don know one who has a carry permit. And the thing is....this guy got mugged a few years back and the thieves got his gun as well because it was two against one. So, AW, you tell me, why do you think you need a gun or is it something you just want to have. Remember, you can still get a rifle. As for the rich and powerful, well, maybe you just need to get some more money so you can become one of the one percenters and then your road to gun rights will be paved.

A setback for AW today:

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court has upheld a New York law which requires that applicants show a special need for self-protection in order to carry handguns.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan issued its ruling Tuesday. The appeals court said the 2nd Amendment was not violated by the law requiring those who want to carry guns to show "proper cause." The ruling was consistent with the findings of a lower-court judge.

A lawyer for five Westchester County residents who sought licenses said they were disappointed with the ruling. Attorney Alan Gura said the New York case — or a similar case in another state — will likely be taken up by the Supreme Court.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman called the ruling a major victory.
